nrat 8
GWP X Labs are popular with highland keepers on grouse moors, lots more stamina than the averidge lab Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
Good dogs, seen loads, like above mainly with grouse keepers. You end up with whats basically a steady easily trained gwp, quarters well, but not too headstrong. Rough n ready for most jobs that come their way. Quote Link to post

ayrshiretaxidermy 29
Ive got one. Had a notion for one of these crosses for a while, seems like a good all rounder. Hes 6 months old, and as biddable as my Lab.Hes gonna be big, as big as a GWP i reckon. A quick learner and keen to please and very loyal. Retrieving from 4 months old in the garden. Found him on epupz from an accidental mating in wales. I would definately get another. Quote Link to post
bird 9,984
Just get a decent lab and be done with it. thats what i was thinking, there some good lines out there that are racey not heavy and will work all day. Ask labs of some lines, i saw some about 8 years ago when used beat at a shoot, but the shoot packed up now .! Quote Link to post

dogs-n-natives 1,182
Speaking to a keeper yesterday, who keeps and breeds this cross, he says he would never get another labrador. The pointer adds a great quartering ability, and uses airborn scent much better than MOST labs, you also get a toughness that isnt present in the average lab. Ability to track and hold wounded boar or deer is bred into the gwp, and they take to hunting toothed or dangerous game easily .... Now Ive seen some good labs, that would make anyone happy, but sadly not the norm, and you wouldnt expect it in a lab anyway, as they are first and foremost a retriever, not a hunter. Like gets said again and again, it depends on what you need out of a dog. For me, a lab would be a waste of feed, for the next man it could be the dog for the job. 1 Quote Link to post
