reddawn 2,173
We gut the rabbits while were out, bang them in the freezer, kills the fleas/ticks, no messing about having to spray the ferrets and just get it out the day/night before their going to eat it if your out as often as some folks an catching a lot of bunnys, at some point ye will need to de flea ye ferret pal, wether or not ye spray them is your choice, but i find it by far the easiest method of getting rid of fleas on ferrets.. i dont spray my ferrets everytime i feed em a fresh bunny or take them ferreting, to be honest i think iv only ever done all my jills twice, which works out about yearly, but i have found/rescued/een given ferrets that needed de flead an frontine has been worth its weight in gold Quote Link to post

Stretch177 39
Aye thats true, we go out maybe 1/2 times a week during the season, not catching/shooting huge amounts, but if we do get a fair few we normally skin 1/2 and leave the skin on the rest. Never had a problem with fleas or ticks, coming into my 3rd season(touch wood) and have always frozen the rabbits before feeding. There will probably be a time when i will have to use the spray and have got a bottle just incase, but at the minute what we do seem to do works for us Edited September 5, 2012 by Stretch177 Quote Link to post

Seen plenty on the rabbits we have had in the past, you could see them all on the sides of the plastic bag we put them in, but so far have not had any on the ferrets, touch wood lol Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
Maybe im lucky folks seem to think ticks appear more where sheep are but ive only one place with sheep and ive never had a ferret with a tick bloody spaniels a different ball game altogether Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,467
The ferrets that have been riddled with fleas and ticks have probably bumped into a hedgehog down a hole, I reckon rabbit fleas are different and don't live on ferrets (or dogs) but I could be wrong. Quote Link to post
