welcome to the world of the bullx

spot on, but it aint got to be like that if you put the trainning in 1st . My last bullxgrey i had was like that, but i started to work him off the slip, ok at ist he would piss off. But they got a good brain on them, once he knew the lamp held quarry , he would start to look down the beam, and not go to far ahead . He got really good few lads saw work and said he was behaved . The prob i think people seem to think bullxs have got be used differnt to another x, and they make hard work for there selves .Treat it like any other lurcher its just a dog .!!

not all bull xs are like that i have one he is 14 months and i never work him on the lead he runs straight down the beam catches or not then straight back , the only time he goes on the lead is if im walking down a busy road and he just walks to heal , during the day i can send him off to hunt up a bit but he never goes that far :)

It's all down to the initial training: how many lurcher owners actually put in the hours to train a pup to walk sensible on a loose lead? And I emphasise the word TRAIN. Most people just take the pup out, and do very little to actually control what the dog does, being of the attitude that if it is on a lead then it is under control. Bull crosses are high drive dogs, but so are many other breeds/types: it's all down to the training in the first place.

I have had several different breed's over the year's all of which have been trained and brought up in a similar way..none of them have been bad on the lead up untill i aquired a bull grey saluki grey..all his working life he has pulled my arm off and no amount of snapping the lead back and whatever else i tried worked..he has had me over a few time's and one night the fecker dragged me 25yrd's across a wet field because he seen something in the distance in the dark.. :D ...but the same dog would walk behind me once i let him of the lead.. ..

ive maybe been lucky but ive had a few different xs over the years and brought them all up more or less the same some have been more head strong than others but in the end ive always managed to train them to a fairly high standard and been able to work them off the lead , as been said before some need more work is some aspects of training and less in others but keep at it and you will get there in the end :)

the only time i ever had this was when the dog had been used constantly for daytime stuff by the previous owner, plenty nights out on the lamp till it realised much more interesting looking at whats up the beam rather than using its nose in the dark and she came good perhaps just needs to see more on the lamp to get its head up Edited by long-tail
