new rifle help

Recommended Posts

Bit of a mixed bag of opinion on the subject of what to do with a brand new rifle, the following has always worked for me.

I would clean it with a solvent before firing to remove any manufacturing or storage grease in the barrel.

I would then fire it once, clean it. Repeat that five times.

Fire a three shot group, clean it. Repeat five times.

Then clean at 25 shot intervals until you reach around 250 rounds when normal cleaning regimes can apply.

Its all about bedding in the rifle, removing the burrs or marks in the barrel from manufacture while not putting too much pressure on a new barrel through firing it.
