I feel exactly the same way....................good for them if " sport " can enrich their lives thats great.............but midgets swimming, blind people riding bikes or people with no legs in running races is farcical bordering on humiliation and not what sport is about................from a personal achievement point of view i have nothing but admiration for them, but from a competetive sport point of view i find it ridiculous that society sees it necessary to have an " Olympics " its equal opportunities gone barmy in my opinion.

If it was your Son, Daughter or family member you might not feel the same.

They are human beings and feel the need to compete like able bodied people. Their desire to better themselves is amazing, not to sit there and rot in a bloody wheel chair or some other aid.

It might not be pretty or to everyones taste, but to these people its their life. Good on them and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers Bob

You kind of summed it up yourself there.

I obviously have no problem with them doing the sports, I imagine if I was disabled I would like to try and still be active and take part in sports. The problem I have is when people make me out to be some kind of stupid Neanderthal ape who doesn't 'understand' because I find watching a lot of the paralympic sports cringe worthy and I cannot relate to them.

Having a dwarf race against someone with one arm etc is a joke. Categories or not, it just is not an equal playing field. You have Oscar Pistorious who cant seem to decide whether he wants to be disabled or not. Make your fecking mind up.

If you enjoy watching the Paralympics because you enjoy the sob stories behind them and you feel great admiration for the 'bravery?' of the athletes then genuinely good on you all. If the Paralympic athletes have any kind of substance to them I would hope that they would rather people watched and judged on the merit of the sports and their own performances rather than people watching out of 'admiration' and all the other words touted about. But I am not really interested in the sympathy side of things, so I am only going by the sports I have watched, and for me I do not enjoy the sporting side of things.

And more power to them........................lets just not pretend its top quality high performance sport of which the world should stop and sit rivetted to like " normal " sport................i personally know a young disabled lad who trains in bodybuilding he has a fantastic upper body great attitude and work ethic ........but his legs havent been used in 5 years.........he is realistic enough to accept that anything more than personal achivement in his goals would be little more than " a gimmick "......his words not mine.

I watched him run at the Olympics and wondered why he was there and not at the Paralympics.............................also, if he had of won at the Olympics, would it have started the argument that the prostheisis legs gave him an unfair advantage?

Oh he's showed his true colours now alright........gurning when he was beat by another athlete on blades.......dry your eyes, mate!

Went down in my estimation after that. From what I can make out, the limitations he's talking about were imposed on HIM to make sure he didn't have an advantage when competing against able bodied runners.. :hmm: He can't expect everyone else involved in the paralympics to comply with the restrictions just so he can have his cake and eat it..
