hope this will make a better topics charts`s topic gone a bit tits up with some of the penile replys..so here goes small dogs takin big quarry lets not have a repeat of the bullshit in the past though with 20inch beddy whippets pulling down rhyno an god only knows what else.........truthful replys appreciated an lets try to keep it to what youve seen yourself rather then what youve been told in the beer tent at earth dog running dog or some other show,....cheers in advance...

from personal experience. I think the only big quarry the small dogs can handle well is either the sick, injured, elderly or very young animals. One of the whippets a mate has will handle bigger stuff good but ALWAYS gets hurt, where the bigger dog will come off fine and ready to go. of course not all small dogs are the same but from the 6 I've seen work, I think I'll stick to larger dogs...

People always refer to a small dog as that of a whippet type, you can get dogs which are small in height but make up for it in strength through being bigger built can you not?

had another bearded collie x grey 20tts as wide as it was big and fast a very fast dog would knock down walls to get to a rabbit to fast for its own good at times would tackle anything preban had no fear atb

from personal experience i have seen several small dogs on different occasions take large quarry uninjured not old or unwell on a regular basis preban of course so i dont see the need for large dogs in this day with the ban it just draws unwanted attention to yourself atb

Its not that little dogs couldnt take bigger quarry iv seen plenty do it, BUT i think its down too that bit more top end speed/Ground coverage you get with a bigger dog the ground i run is biggish land and the smaller dogs still did alright just not as good as some of the bigger types,

To be honest I see no reason for dogs under 20" and are they worthy of the title lurcher which should be capable of all round lurcher work whereas a smaller dog would be restricted/impeded by it's size.

the ban doesn't affect me as I'm in Aus. What are you considering large quarry?

 

I had a ridgeback bull stag, powerful little bugger, the only problem he had was his height and now I've got two pups out of him that are 27 inches and 29 inches to the shoulder and excel on large stuff.
