Ausnick 190
from personal experience. I think the only big quarry the small dogs can handle well is either the sick, injured, elderly or very young animals. One of the whippets a mate has will handle bigger stuff good but ALWAYS gets hurt, where the bigger dog will come off fine and ready to go. of course not all small dogs are the same but from the 6 I've seen work, I think I'll stick to larger dogs... 4 Quote Link to post

Moll. 1,770
Is it the height or build which makes a dog too small though? People always refer to a small dog as that of a whippet type, you can get dogs which are small in height but make up for it in strength through being bigger built can you not? Quote Link to post

Fair play to that whippet mate, to come off with a dull one and still go back for more takes heart, hope the owner realises that. 1 Quote Link to post

Tiny 7 1,694
Its not that little dogs couldnt take bigger quarry iv seen plenty do it, BUT i think its down too that bit more top end speed/Ground coverage you get with a bigger dog the ground i run is biggish land and the smaller dogs still did alright just not as good as some of the bigger types, After all who was the fellah that was doing fallow buck with 19'' beddy/whip regular Were all after the type that can spank everything Quote Link to post

What are you considering large quarry? I had a ridgeback bull stag, powerful little bugger, the only problem he had was his height and now I've got two pups out of him that are 27 inches and 29 inches to the shoulder and excel on large stuff.
