A fox hunt isn't fair leveller but that's a different debate

Well leveller I don't normally condem another mans sport especially not in public but as born hunter said you did annoy me with your comment.

Foxing with Lurchers if done properly is a battle of wits and grit, the dog misses and well that's it the fox has won that round. The fox has a fair chance and it tests the Lurcher in both ability and will.

Hounds well to me there's no sport in it, all day chasing one fox through all manner of groin and should he go to ground he's still not safe. Now if this was for one problem fox as a manner of pest control fair enough but when it's to be sport well I dont see it as one as to me the prey has to have as much chance as the dog.

Normally I don't comment about other sports but you seem to think it acceptable so that's my opinion on what I find to be a disgrace to hunting

. HOUNDS WELL TO ME THERES NO SPORT IN IT AS THE LAUGHING POLICE MAN SONG GOES HA FOOOOKIN HA HA. THIS SITE GET BETTER BY THE DAY. ! OVER AND OUT

Field sports by there very nature arnt a "fair fight". Its not "fair" to use a NV scope on a rifle when shooting rabbits. Its not "fair" decoying pigeons. Its not "fair" slipping a lurcher on "legal quarry". I think you have an obligation to be sporting though if your not hunting purely for pest control or filling the pot. Any one could take there spaniel onto a field and pick up hares that are sitting too tight (well not these days, wouldnt want to break the law ;) ), but you wouldnt say it was a coursing dog. Pre ban alot of hunts used to give a fox that had been dug out "law", others who have to kill foxes to protect lambs ect killed it on the spot.

i understand the point of hounds and to be fair i dont dislike it, i was trying to get a point across to leveller but i dont think i managed that. he said about people going to to kill foxes when not for pest control, i.e asked to do it, wasnt on or he didnt agree with it but accepted hounds. to me they are principally the same as not every fox the hounds killed was for pest control and i dont think anyone has the right especially in this game to condem another mans sport. Whether he has permission, is asked to do it or is just doing it for his own pleasure we as a hunting fraternity shouldnt condemn any man aslong as he isnt doing something that doesnt put hunting in a bad light. yes there are the idiots that kill deer and leave them to rot but the majority that do deer, fox or hare either now or before the ban didnt do them for pest control or for food but for sport. in todays society one for the pot isnt a valid excuse to kill something as meat is easy enough to come by, we do it for sport and to test either the dog or the equipment or ourselves and the reason the ban come about wasnt just the antis but also ourselves for not banding together and in my opinion whether you dont like something or not aslong as its legitimate we shouldnt publicly air our dislike of it.

prior to the ban my thing was foxing with dogs, did i do it because i had to? no. did i do it to test the dogs and myself at different aspects? yes. round here you cant call in a fox now because of the hunts, they call and fire blanks over them so that they can run them thereselves ( thats from the horses mouth so tospeak ) so if they where genuinly doing it for pest control and not just for sport they wouldnt allow that to happen.

just my opinion, i think we all need to ban together and not condem each other for not doing things that we see to be right or wrong. theres enough against us without fighting within ourselves

might just be me but all my permision is given for pest control never been asked to do anything for sport, if your talking about testing your dog like say the old waterloo cup ect then maybe thats classed as a sport. hunts do far more for a community than hunt foxs

I didnt read the other thread but i'm sure that kind of statement gets folks backs up. Its an uninformed bollocks media based line that antis use like wildfire mate, complete and utter tosh..............

But you did give me some other info on another topic and it changed my views on a certain subject, i'm sure you remember..........

i know exactly what you mean lab and i dont by any means think that but that was to get my point across.

I'm not knocking Keepers or Pest Controllers or even somebody putting a bit of meat in the freezer these in my eyes are genuine reasons to be doing what we do but if you don't know whether or not to enter your dog I'm guessing the red isn't causing anybody a problem so leave it be.

this is the point i was argueing lab, just because a young man doesnt know how to enter a dog doesnt mean he should and i cant find the other comment but he also said about going and killing for no reason. well into todays society who actually does much hunting for pest control? yes we all get the odd jobs but the majority is for sport.

theres alot of fieldsport aspects i disagree with but that doesnt mean i would publicily declare it or bad mouth it.

sorry to go on but also what you said changed your opinion was pretty much the same as the opinion i put on here, unless people witness it for themselves they have the opinion that media creates so by our own saying people go out purely for killing sake its creating more of a bad image for people especially our own people that dont hunt in that way and only read about it here
