Yes i do believe hare coursing was banned because of the type of people it attracted. And also for the same reasons as fox hunting was banned, because people/antis perceived it as a blood sport enjoyed by blood thirsty people.....Answered two questions in one there in case you hadn't noticed

Hare coursing wasn't specifically banned though Moll, the single act of hunting any mammal with dogs was banned and hare coursing and fox hunting then became illegal as a by product. Even hunting rats and rabbits is just as illegal as hunting foxes and hares without complying with the conditions laid down in the act...

have disagree malt lacs targeted hare coursing, Because they had basicly failed to get fox hunting banned in its own right, back in the 60s coursing nealy died through lack of interest a small minority kept it alive the 70s brought an influx of new coursing enthusiasts, the cup and old yorkshire became popular once again. The waterloo cup had not been reported on for years exept for small print in sporting press,

The cup got more and more coverage every year busing in antis from all over , new labour needed the unions the unions needed new labour prescot and co needed money to fight their campain lacs gleefully gave. Promises were made foxhunting's total ban was a bridge to far. Hare coursing was achevible the hunting act enqirey ensued , pheasants protected more than lambs , hares more important than rabbits , deals deals behind closed door coursing was sacrifised to appease. While hunting was given a way out simple, and just to make it more palitable they threw in mink and other mammals as to leave them out would have gave the hunting lobby more amo , blair abstaining gave him a way back with the real players and prescot got a peerage funny old world eh ;)

Leveller what chance does a 16 year old lad from a council estate have of gaining some permission from a keeper to run his lurcher or do a bit of pest control with his terriers on the local estate? let me tell you no chance at all, so the young lad should knock the dogs on the head because he's got nowhere to run his dog?

To be fair it may take time and effort but im sure they would get some permission, some of my permission i have now i gained when i was 14 yrs old, i used to get round the local farms and knock on doors, always dressed respectful, none of this trackies and trainers, always spoke politely anyhow its funny how quick you can rack up permission when you have been on one spot in the area it is getting your foot in the door, Its always good to have a bit of common ground like when i ask for permission i will usually just mention i beat on whoevers and do pest control on wherever. Its all about attitude if you have it in your head that well no one is going to give me permission you arent gonna get any..

Getting on doing a bit of beating will get you known to the keepers and you can soon build a trust,

It would be nice to see more people actually making an effort and trying to get permission, rather than feck it lets poach some one elses

Like someone has already said I think its different in other parts of the country I know from experience you would be hard pushed to get your foot in the door anywhere around here ;)

. It's because you turn up in a scooby doo head to tow north face. And a liver bird. Tatt. On your forehead. And a salivating bullcross. Chewing the front seat. Offering. Verrrrrmin destruction. !!!!!

youve met stabba then

he popped into my head aswell.

I wouldn't give a Yorkshire lad permission on there accent alone!

Nothing wrong with the yorkshire accents! The southern birds love it!

f**k off, no c**t understands it but you lot.

Al have thee know, thars obviously not listening properly!

I think your just upset your not from yorkshire, i cant blame you....

when we hunted with fell packs

Funny I only seem to remember one of us on the Fell glued to Michael Nicholson's coat tails watching hounds the other was in a pub car park sat in a truck with the heater on picking broken bits of pink champagne bottle out of their hair :tongue2:

The most effective method for pest control is a gun so why not shoot?

Absolute bollocks, that says more about you and your dogs than anything else

Shooting is more humane, quicker, easier and better for pest control.

Again more shit!

Why should they get permission? I got a dog knowing I would have to poach - stopped me fighting, drinking, taking drugs, selling drugs and much other stuff. I learnt a lot by not having permission for the first several years, stuff I would have never learnt if I had permission. Whether you agree or not it was that poaching that taught me field craft as poaching causes you to be quiet, careful with the lamp and careful whom you take to land you have found. I respect my dogs, quarry and the land in my opinion more because I started out poaching

But you obviously have absolutely no respect for a fellow dogman who has worked hard to gain permission and who respects his land, his deer, his rabbits etc because you feel that you have some right to take what's his based on the grounds that if you're not doing that you'd be pushing drugs on others or fighting?

When I was just starting to get interested in girls I'd play with myself and learn all about how things worked, I'd watch movies, look at blue mags and talk to my peers about sex. I might walk down the road see a hot looking girl who's way out of my league and think I'd love a bit of that but that doesn't give me the right to smack her over the head and smash her back doors in. I do however feel that I could approach her in a polite civil respectful manner and maybe ask her out, wine her dine her I might get a good night kiss, I might even get to stroke her cat through the letter box or she might say simply say no, I've got a boyfriend (someone elses permission) oh well life's unfair.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and I don't do this very often on the sites but based on the absolute ignorance and naivety of so many of your posts I'm going to ask you two questions.

  1. Are you a teenager?
  2. Have you ever sat on stage in Manchester and talked to somebody called Jeremy?

Are you honestly trying to say that hunting an animal with a dog is more efficient than shooting?

Yes, if it's underground/in thick covert/in a farm building/sat ontop of a fuel tank etc etc the list goes on every situation is different and to say one method is better than the other would be idiotic and only serves in an argument to get the other banned. Comments like that south hams made about guns being better than dogs is nonsense.

That's where your wrong leveller, if a man I kind enough to show me his ground I would never return. I would however go onto ground I didn't have permission on and use my wits and gile to take all manner of game now to me thats what made that game deserved because I was able to do it without be detected. But nowadays I have plenty of land to run my dogs on and what would I do if I knew someone else had been on my land? Well I'd have a short reminase to myself, normally a little chuckle and silently wish then the bees of luck.

No leveller I'm not a teenager and no I haven't been on Jeremy Kyle but I also haven't lived a sheltered life, fr from it infact

And there's plenty of places a dog is no use and entry of jobs they're no use for. I spent many a year shooting and got much better numbers than I did with dogs but I kept the dogs on as I preferred shooting. Yes as a younger man I ran with the foxes and slept with the hounds but now I just stick to my little bit of land with my dogs and enjoy the sport
