Chid 6,624
think i read some where once its rated FAC it stays that way Quote Link to post
neil82 1,084
if following home office regs, once on fac, it stays fac, some areas allow downgrading but if you have a gun thats been registered as fac and move to another force area and the serial number flags up as fac(even tho downgraded and certified) you may be in line to a whole pile of hassle Quote Link to post
Lewis Ste 245
There's just been a thread about this Quote Link to post
milegajo 595
Send the home office a 'Notice and certificate of termination of registration' along with an affadavit from one or even better three gunsmiths that the gun is now 12ft/lbs. Quote Link to post
milegajo 595
Sorry, sub 12 ft/lbs. With chrono read outs. Quote Link to post

Wxm 1,638
So it can be done the ? As there's a air arms s410 on gun star and it's 250 cause it's Fac, im not in the market for 1 yet but just wanted to know how I go about it. The other alternative is get some 1 with a Fac to buy it for me then get them to take it down Quote Link to post
milegajo 595
I can only say that is how i would go about it, having never had cause to I can't make guarantees. Personally, I would steer clear and save myself the trouble. Quote Link to post
milegajo 595
And for the sake of £100 I'd strongly advise you stick to non FAC's until you acquire the necessary approvals. Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
I was under the impression that if it was taken off your ticket as FAC, and to be sold to someone without an FAC ticket, that it had to be decommissoned? I may be wrong. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
You can only sell or pass on an FAC registered air rifle, regardless of its chronographed FPE reading, to a Registered Firearms Dealer. Only he has the authority of the police to detune it to sub 12ft/lbs and formally certify it as such with them. Consider this not-impossible scenario. The police may have cause to apprehend a fellow with an air rifle he bought as a second hand bargain. And, after subsequently checking, they find out his air rifle serial numbers or previous owner was on the firearms register; and this new owner has no FAC. How would anyone without an FAC, prove to the police that his firearms registered air rifle was detuned to sub-12ft/lbs all the time in his ownership? As far as the law is concerned, there is no grey area here. It is still a registered firearm and possession of it by an unlicensed keeper is still an offence, regardless of what the power output happens now to be. Otherwise, the answer to the original question is "Fair Wear and Tear"! Like everything else! Quote Link to post
milegajo 595
Even if possible, just doesn't seem worth the hassle. As the old adage goes, if it were straight forward, everyone would be doing it. Quote Link to post
Alvaston_Shooter 1
The seller won't even sell to you if you're not an FAC holder anyway, or at least he shouldn't, no matter what your intentions are. With all the other potential issues mentioned above in the mix as well I would just forget about it. FAC guns often go a bit cheaper as there's simply not as much call for them as sub 12s. milegajo 595
That's the nail clobbered on the noggin. If it were easy, they wouldn't be cheaper. Quote Link to post
