First season failures?

Last season I had a bit of bad luck and I went from having three dogs to zero before the season had even finished. This leaves me with two first season dogs for this year. I know there's a lot of lads that have got a lot of high hopes" as we all have "for their first season dogs. Now if these two fail that's five dogs in two seasons that I'll have gone through! This got me thinking what do you class as failing in a first season dog? Do you tolerate certain things and put them down to inexperience ?

imo no first season dog should be classed as a failure , they should be learning and aint a finished article so there should be no reason for it to fail

oops thought i was in the lurcher section hahha ignore that i dont have a clue about bringing terriers on lol

I'm the same mate u have to look beyond some silly mistakes as they're learning u have to walk before u can run is a saying, that comes with patience and not over matching them hope the 2 u have work out for u. Noticed u says before the seasons finished the season hasn't started yet

Alot of lads in the same boat as you mate. Atleast your being honest with yourself. For me any dog must seem like they want it! Young or old.

No opinions on what a first season failure is lads? Ok I'll start then I had a bitch at about 15 months old and she was showing all the signs of wanting to start work. Now I know where there's a nice earth for puppy to start and build confidence . One holer rabbity spot literally two feet down . She flys in makes contact and comes out as fast as she went in! After that she was given time and tried again but she wouldn't go to ground again. Now for me that's a failure!

@ long dogs exactly what a friend said to me. I suppose it's what you tolerate in your yard, in my mind I had given her plenty of chances to prove herself. But another man might of put her away until next season. So to go back to my original question what do you consider a first season failure and what mistakes would you tolerate and put down to inexperience ?

I'd have done the same as you in that situation mate and unfortunatly it was a failure! if a young terrier come off after contact then goes back just as keen then it would be a different story and i wouldnt be to bothered

my bitch i lost at christmas she used to come back through the earth as it all collapsed over her,to start with used to do my head in but she was learning so i just let it over my head.i kept been patient and kept trying in end she came good and stopped doing it,

if were honest we all have failures at some time or other, i had one fail 2 seasons ago, 16mth old bitch offered 3 different occasions each time young fox, nothing to much for any young terrier, to cut it short she was a coward for work but a bstd for fighting. i should have shot her instead of the fox, but the same day a guy called p hyde took her free of charge to do me a favour [ and to save the bitch ] i told him she was a failure, no problem he said, i only want her for showing, he agreed to me no breeding, if she dident shape up to his needs, pts. now ive found out hes bred the fck out of her, and knocking them out inside the JRC. as working stuff. we live and learn, it wont happen again. it will stay were it failed.

MOORSMAN THATS WHY IVE DROPED HIS NAME ON HERE. AS SOMEBODY HAS ALREADY ASKED ME WHAT THE BITCH WAS LIKE. I NO SOME PEOPLE WOULD HAVE GIVEN THE BITCH A BIT LOGER, BUT YOU NO WHEN SOMTHING WILL MAKE IT OR NOT, IT MADE MY BLOOD BOIL WHEN SOMEBODY TURNED UP WITH A PUP OUT OF IT SAYING THIS IS OUT OF YOUR STUFF,, YOU CAN GUESS WHAT MY REPLY WAS,
