cumbriaborder87 0
Hi all Just joined & wanting a bit of advice really. Have a 6 yo parson russell terrier who is very keen on killing things....this is absolutely fine as always fancied having a working dog...problem is, hes not too sure how to go about it I think! Tonight he grabbed hold of a neighbours chicken and very nearly mauled it to death! Anyway, just wanting some advice how to train him properly to catch rats & rabbits rather than ornamental chickens lol. He's very enthusiastic about it, just want some advice how i channel this enthusiam correctly! Cheers

cumbriaborder87 0
Cheers. Didn't know with him being kept as a bloody lap dog he would know what to do or not...now realise how stupid that sounds!
Cleanspade 3,323
well let him off the lead then the first thing to do is to teach him some manners. let him run loose and feck knows what he will nail. you need to make sure that he wont take hold of livestock. (this includes chickens  ) maybe a long lead would be a good start . and be carefull he dont run down holes. if he has no locator on. learn what holes to steer clear of once you have some control over him then get him at some rats. good luck

South hams hunter 8,924
Dotty play nice, serious note what has made you decide after 6 years?
The one 8,485
Think your going to need to go back to basic's if you cant stop him you cant let him off his lead and terriers are always trying to be top dog ,so if your not in control he will do what he likes
