Mitch.friend 12
Any advice on starting a dog on reds would be much appreciated as when we're lamping bunnys she seems more than interested . Do i slip her and hope for the best? She's 3 years old and stands 25" tts.Doubling her up is not a option as my bitch pup is only 6 months and hasn't done anything yet Cheers! Link to post

Guest born to run1083
Assuming you travel to ireland alot I'd take it ratting, get it used to being bitten this can help them get used to being nipped and even tho there on considerable smaller scale the process that happens in the dogs brain should be the same so to speak.Might take a few reds for the animal to realise it is aloud to take them. Get that installed then being honest if it's a driven dog it should get stuck in once they know there aloud to be had. Every dog I've had that took em have self entered just took a couple to get the knack so to speak. Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
Before the ban, I worked a dog or two to fox, and started them prior to 12 months old single handed. With the ban you can no longer do this, but you are fine and within using your dog, or up to two dogs, to hunt them in order to flush them to a gun (or eagle!) If a fox has been shot, and wounded, your dog is legally allowed to hunt and finish the fox to prevent further suffering. So by no means is your dog out of action, just modified somewhat to fit in with legislation. Hope this helps DnN 2 Link to post
