Wxm 1,638
you say your dog no damage.. what about the dogs mental side of things?? Give her the choice.. we take a trip up the field with the gun or vets.. or its getting reported! If the dog has attacked dogs or people before it should be PTS. No ifs or buts..DEAD It might be good with kids/people. but its attacking dogs which is no excuse! but would you still say that if it was your terrier or lurcher??? it should have been nipped in the but by the second time but she / he should be given the option of that if the dog didn't have a muzzle on it the next time I saw it in public there'd be consequences..(as malt says)
bird 9,968
Maybe it wouldn't attack a kid but it might attack a dog at the end of a lead being held by some kid... I'd tell the woman that if the dog didn't have a muzzle on it the next time I saw it in public there'd be consequences.. yeh spot on, tell her with the law now that she could get sent down for 18 months with a dangerous dog, so either have it muzzled in public or a 18 month holiday with no sun. if she got any brains she will do the right thing ,any breed today out of control you will get sent down not just bull breeds , i get more probs with feckin labs trying to fight my dog than most other breeds .! maybe there owners are to soft with them .?

My springer turned and no matter what i done she could not come back. so she went for a walk never to come back!
christian71 3,187
The woman was genuinly sorry , apart from a fright your dog is thankfully o.k ,theres only heresay to go on that it,s happened before , have a word with the woman and her son , tell them you,v heard it happened previously and you dont want to see the dog off it,s leash again , you say you know the woman , try to educate her about the dangers and how she avoid them .ATB In a nut shell dont need to read anymore

No ifs or buts..DEAD It might be good with kids/people. but its attacking dogs which is no excuse! Agreed if it attacked people. But to say that if it attacked other dogs it should be dead? The dog is (probably) a much watered down pet version of the result of hundreds of years of breeding, that's as daft as saying that if your lurcher is seen chasing a rabbit then it should be shot, how can you criticise a dog for doing what is was bred for? Using your reasoning, the spaniel that was attacked, if it brings a dead bird back, then shoot it! It is down to the owners of dogs with that kind of drive to keep them out of trouble, the dog is doing exactly what it should be doing.
South hams hunter 8,926
ss people think that because dog fighting is illegal no dog should have aggression. The dog doesn't need to be PTs but either trained correctly, muzzled or just kept away from other dogs. Had a staff as a young kid that was given to us that was dog aggressive so just kept it away from other dogs, simple

It is down to the owners of dogs with that kind of drive to keep them out of trouble, the dog is doing exactly what it should be doing. I totally see the point you've made.. yes its the owner who's let the dog get to that stage.. yes its not the dogs fault.. but you can't just say well its a fighting breed so its ok if it fights other dogs on the street.. rabbits are pests, so a lurcher is doing a job its expected to do and which is ok to the normal people in this country. same go's for the springer.. dog fighting is not excepted in this day and age. so owner need to make bloody sure dogs are not trying to kill other dogs.. I no of many a fighting breed that would rather lick other dogs/people/kids to death. because of good owners.. some dogs are just bad dogs. just like they are some people who are just sick fucks.. 95% of people who have dogs today should not keep fish.. I could just jump to its a young lads dog. just like the press do and say he's using it as a weapon. that may or may not be true . but giving the fact that most lads with that type of dog just want to look hard.. same with half the bullx wannabes.. its all a fashion.. that is making dogs suffer!! shame we could not give the owner one behind the ear! as i've said it not the life i want to lead.. keeping a dog that is a risk to others and its self.. plus the fact if it gets to do what i wants to. i will end up in court and i could be banned from keeping dogs. so my other dogs would be PTS all because of one dog! sure that would make scene other members?? I agree with what your saying SS, but a lurcher chasing a rabbit ain't killing/mauling a family pet is it? If youve got a dog that ain't 100 percent with other dogs/stock, them you shouldn't let it of it's chain in a public place, end off, And in my opinion the dog should be culled, especially as its owned by fuckwits that can't control it, Cheers fd.
gnasher16 30,276
Must admit i dont have a lot of time for the breed they always put me in mind of a fat skinhead propping up the bar who thinks he should act a certain way because its what he,s " supposed to do ".....if he thought he was actually in any real danger he,d be hiding !......... That said i certainly couldnt get on the blower and report it.......just because the dogs jumped on a few dogs is no reason to think it would do the same to a kid.............i can understand your need to want to do something about it......i think my approach would be to tell the woman if i hear anything like this happens again or see the dog out of control again i will report it.....that way your allowing for a mistake but still making a stand of sorts.
graham4877 1,181
OH and i'l add my way of thinking.. is its no life for a dog to be on a lead all the time or have to be muzzled! been there done that when i was young and daft..never again.. Oh and i have a bullx and love all bull breeds.. so i'm not hater of the breeds.. you'd get the same from me if it was one of them hand bag dogs.. Thing is its her sons dog, alot of young lads as i've said.. think its mint to have a dog that bites/fights theirs no need to report it if she dose the right thing and cull.. i'm not one for picking phone up on people.. You could give her a chance. and she's 100% sorry and wont let it happen again, but her son might or it could slip the lead.. and it could kill a dog next time.. it could kill a child!! you need to Think long and hard.. WHAT IF.. for me the what if is to much of a risk!
GrCh 856
what if a womans walking her dog with her two children and the said dog attacks the family dog infront of the children could be very traumatic for alot of kids.
gnasher16 30,276
dose the right thing and cull.............. it could kill a child!! I bet you would make a great headline writer for the News of the World !...............Its grabbed hold of a few dogs its not a child killer who must be destroyed as soon as possible ! It's down to him who lets in with a dog, same as people, if they are sociable and well behaved they are welcome. I don't know why anyone would want to take a DA dog into a pub in the first place, too stressful for me!
