It also depends upon what surface you are training on,nothing more than a nice extended trot is needed in my opinion and i prefer to use hard packed mud lanes rather than roads.As Wazcor says the rubbing down process is very beneficial to the dog,i like to do before and after and use a good muscle rub/embrocation especially in the cooler months,ive found trotting one day and sprinting the next works well but you need more than a push bike to do that,it really all depends on what fitness level you require,if its just for a general fitness for lamping etc what your doing seems fine.Certain dogs as in salukis need more lung so they require a little more work than say a lamping dog.

Thanks for that Jonner. The surface is tarmac (cycle paths)

Just want them as fit as i can possibly get them, mainly for lamping various quarry.

The big dog has poor stamina and would like to try to get it better.

I gather that what i am doing is sufficient and i dont need to change the routine then.

Yes,if your dogs are getting hand walked aswell as free running,3to4 mile every other day should work well,theres no point in going miles and miles and over cooking them.

Im sure your no mug but look at each dog individually,one dog may need more work than the other etc,another thing i do is keep a track of there weights,jot there weight down until you find each dogs ideal running weight,some dogs run better with a bit of a back on them,some need to be light or they run like pigs.

If you feed well,give them plenty of work with plenty of rest and attention you wont go far wrong,best of luck.
