bored silly so put me coat on grabbed the dogs and away up on permission with the lad and his dogs first field got a run missed rain light but never ending plodded on next field not a thing next field two sat out mate slips his 18 month bitch two turns and one in the bag the next couple of fields are quiet rough so let me spaniel brush in front of us two break from cover another slip dog runs four turns and loses sight in the rough not five minutes later the lurchers break into the corn after something two minutes later a family of ducks come out lurchers look on in amazement let them pass and carry on to the next field spaniel flushes and catches a bird, this is to be the start of the calamity that this afternoon would turn into spaniel working as he normally does thirty yards in front when a rabbit breaks into the corn the dog gives chase but doesnt return half an hour goes by shouting and scouring no sign my mate then takes the rest of the dogs to the van upon his return we start to search the corn fields two hours later the dog finds us just about to leave the corn fields and retrace our steps what a carry on.

Lost Ossie on Ben Lawers for a while last year, fecking horrible feeling. (He'd chased a Fox) The camp site owner said he'd lost his Springer for 3 days up there before that. He called Mountain Rescue out and they found the dog.

Yes, a true nightmare results in a dead or badly injured dog. And whilst your heart does beat a bit faster if they disappear for a while (usually meaning that I'm cursing the bloody thing whilst worrying at the same time until it turns up), that feeling has nothing compared to finding one of your beloved lurchers, terriers or any other sort of dog lying dead on the floor, or even worse, immobile with its back broken but still alive.

The grandmother lost her bedlington whippet once. So on the off chance I drove about 4 miles up the road with the lamp and started covering some fields I had worked her on in the past. Kept flashing the lamp and giving a little whistle then spotted two little eyes coming towards me and it was her. Over the bloody moon and very lucky

i lost this old bull whippit here a good few years ago after she took off into a wood after a munty after 3 hrs of searching and whistling, covered in sweat and going horse, i thought "feck it" i walked back to the motor only to find her curled up fast asleep on the boot in the shunshine

Same thing happened to me with our Jack earlier this year,At nearly 10 yrs old I was panicing abit ,and there he was waiting for me ,tail wagging at the van.

Didn't know wether to bollock him or kiss the old buggar lol

It's a horrible feeling Paul especially when you can't shout anymore becuase you have fooked your throat in..allsort's of bad stuff goes through your head..has it hit a tree has someone picked it up is it stuck in a snare..but like i said it's a good feeling when you do get them back..even though i was angry as fook you still have to praise them..

true you do get mixed emotions, the 2 i run now have sussed where "things" get under a fence into a high security compound, cameras,dogs the lot. now that does make your arse twitch when they go hoofing it into there
