Also leveller you say you dont subscribe to the idea of doubling dogs up preban on deer, whilst running or entering a dog to reds you needed two most times to get the job done and show a sapling that such big critters are fair game  . Also is your kelpie runner a straight half cross ? looks a nice stamp  Cheers Atb

I believe the management of the red deer herds are best left to the Staghounds and would be a bit of a hypocrite if I said anything else lol. I've never ran deer since the ban so it's not something I can really comment

Fair enough neither have i, was talking early 90,s very well preban and my limited experience of taking the big critters  Cheers Atb

Well as my dog lacks nothing in heart and drive I'd have to go with the training although I wouldn't use the word "superior" more like simple time and effort. Most people I'd hope take the time to get

I think lads that lack the ability and patience it takes to train a dog properly will always respond with the obvious shouts of lack of drive etc,I find if the dog is within 10-20ft of me it will list

This bitch is my rabbiting dog I got her soley to assist with the pest control so a dog that's mind is elsewhere and not focused on the job is of little use. I have a few shoots I go on and the Keepers are understandably quite wary of Lurchers (well dogs in general) especially when there is other game in the area or young birds still finding their feet so a properly well trained dog under control is an absolute must and if you can prove you have one it does open a whole lot of doors.

This doe jumped up in front of us last night and I kept the lamp on it as it fled to the safety of the wood my bitch remained in front of me with a single command for the duration. Strange as it may sound it pleased me much that she listened to my command more than if she had run the thing in the darkness and pulled it down, apart from the obvious legal side of things lamping deer has never appealed to me anyway. I used to love the odd daytime run before the ban but those days are history now so for now it's Bunnies only.

But would your dog stay there if you dropped a bacon sarny on the floor next it? I'd bet you'd have to shout it off then  .
