Should pup & veteran be able to enter best in show

Recommended Posts

I think a Veteran should definately go to the final !! After all, it should have prooved itself over at least six seasons.

I don't think a pup should go to the final, as it isn't the finished product, growing wise; and has prooved nothing.

Cheers.

:hmm:It is a difficult one...

Personaly,..(although dog shows have feck all to do with working dogs)....I think the criteria has always been to try and pick a Champion that,..(in the Judges' opinion)...is capable of undertaking the task, for which it has originally been bred ..

Therefore, I have never picked a youngster over a 'made dog',.nor would I allow an ancient doddery critter, possibly ten years of age,.to stand above a superb physical specimen, so obviously in its absolute prime...

The Veterans deserve all the respect in the world,..but I have seen some ridiculous situations arise from such a foolish indulgence...

However,..this is just an opinion,..I could well be wrong...

I agree with chalkwarren

.If the pup can compete in the final class against adult dogs why have a puppy class in the first place ?Same goes for verteran class. Don't think it is fair to ask a judge to judge a puppy againt a mature dog

Whats a pup got to prove in a show ring.

If theres no pup championship why not put it into over all championship and take its chance.

It may not win but the owner will feel that they got a sporting chance at it.

Just my opinion.

Surely if the Vetran class winner was also to go into the championship line up why has it not been shown in its own class category, you dont just show it in the vetran class as a chance to win!! if at 7 years old the dog is still as well kept as a dog of a younger age why would you not just show it in the normal show class!! Just my thoughts!!

At most shows I have been at this year there was a vetern class. But at most of those shows veterns were not allowed in the final. A few shows did allow them. Dont know why they cannot take their place in the final. ? After all in their lifes they have proved themselves over and over again. Why should they be thrown on the scrap heap because they have got a little age on them. I dont agree with pups. At that young age they need to prove themselves both in the field and in the ring.to take their place with the greats. Have a puppy Champion ok,but no further than that. Just my opinion.

In my opinion a veteran should be allowed to compete for best in show it is after all a mature developed dog with seasons under it belt where as a puppy hasnt developed physically or mentally and can no way compete against dogs in their prime it's just common sense ............

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE COUNTRY SPORTS  ARENA
As we approach the end to 2025, I would like to reach out and personally thank  all my friends in Country Sports for all  the hard work you  put into  organising our dog show and race days in 2025 for all to enjoy. These were all fantastic events and truly served as a wonderful window for our Country Sports fraternity.
Days like these at our dog shows in the summer are so important for our community, and your details and dedication to the cause has really shone through. So many charities have benefited over the years and so many new friends made at these get togethers  by like minded people. This was very evident in July this year when the Burren Working Dog Club gave £17,OOO to a charity. What an achievement.

I know there will be some very sad homes  this year,  with places missing at the  dinner table  in  our Country Sports  community. Can I please offer my heartfelt sympathy to all those people , and  hopefully with Gods help you will get through to brighter days ahead.

Many thanks to the McGrath Racing Club Carlow, for a great day out at the 5 Nations and who has travelled north and south of the border to run our racing so efficiently and helped me out on many occasions..  A special word of thanks to Tally Ho ( Peter Morgan ) for keeping the Country Sports window open in the dark days of winter by organising your virtual competitions and giving away so many generous prizes in return. This is so greatly appreciated .

And Finally, to my mentors and long term friends  Mr 5 Nations himself, yes The King of the Castle Albertj Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. Albert it is great to see you getting back to health again, and we look forward to seeing you back on the scene in 2026.

Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity  to  wish you all North and South of the border and further afield a very Happy Christmas and  Prosperous  New Year.

To we meet again in 2026 God Bless

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
