skycat 6,173
Metacam is a painkiller: it won't get rid of a corn at all. Corns are hard to remove at the best of times. You'd be better off seeing a Greyhound vet as they have more experience with this sort of thing than pet dog vets. Quote Link to post

Thats not that bad i think, as the mot was real good check over, cut nails+ dew claws the( lot) .Said he was in good shape, used these vets 25 years top job Quote Link to post

bryanm45 787
Metacam is a pain killer that will mask the pain and if your dog has a foot injury it just runs as if no pain causing more damage than it had to begin with. Bryan Quote Link to post
birddog 1,354
ive heard some crazy stories about vets and tend to stay away unless absolutely necessary, whip /grey on here gave our local vet a lesson on foot anatomy and ligaments, before i go these days i try and learn a thing or two from the web because i think if you sound like you know what your talking about theres less chance of them thinking your just another numpty there to pay for their next trip to barbados Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
Metacam is a anti inflammatory and pain reliever. I suppose he may have thought it would help with the discomfort, but there is no real way you can justify using just Metacam for a corn as it will only relieve pain and swelling in the short term so not a solution. Corns are very difficult to deal with even after surgery they often come back. For anything like that use a greyhound vet and your local small animal vet for run of the mill stuff. Just had 3 teeth removed from my dog and it cost £230. I am lucky he is insured. Good luck Sirius Quote Link to post

Walpole+ Bingham (W-ton), i use Tom Bingham or Nigel Walpole , there are other vets there, but these 2 as they do the greyhounds, so i use them . No vet cheap but these 2 arnt bad, and are very good on running dogs , they know that we work them .! Quote Link to post
brookie 1,193
Go back and tell him strait that he's gave you a painkiller and prob charged you a consultation fee to boot so that he can tell you to go back and charge you another consultation fee and prescribe some more meds instead of dealing with the problem. Tel him you want your money back in full or you will contact the RCVS in London. Best part of Vets nowdays are clueless and a fooking rip off. good post this max .most vets aint got a clue ,theres two lots in our town riverside and hereford rd veterinary centre .both practices real rip of centres vaccinations three visits 85 first shot 75 each then second and third ,35 quid just to go in thru the door .i know of a woman took an alsatian to hereford rd vets he had a grass seed up his snout and wouldnt stop coughing and sneeszing ,the woman vet was terrified of him she was trying to stick him with a jab at arms lenght ,she then prescribed chest x rays ,etc found nowt ,prescribed no drugs ,bill .over 500 quid ,an old woman i walk with sometimes on the local river ,got two dachund bitches ,riverside told her they need sterilising ,she took a bank loan out for 1200 , she now gives em 48 quid a month for tabs to stop em getting fat ,another old girl i know took her 6yrs old terrier to em for worming ,he tells her he needs his booster (what a load of bollox ) took her last 85 quid of her .proper f*****g thieves they are ,i wouldnt take a mouse to the b*****ds 2 Quote Link to post
