keepitcovert 842
Enjoy a few on a weekend, mainly just to see old mates, moderation is the key, too many people are total arses when drunk, and they dont realise how boring they become. Problem with alcoholics is they cant seem to face the fact that they have a problem, weve all seen the effects of excessive drinking, broken homes loss of jobs, even death. No a few real ales on a weekend does for me, dont care if anyone thinks im a boring b*****d.
jimmys shop 182
Great to be sociable with a drink ,we all know it can make people monsters at times , And nobody likes a drunk falling over the top of them ,a lot of people's life's revolve around There local bar or club ,,ie pool, darts, snooker ,fishing .listening to a group on and meeting your Friends . mr scent 665
gave it up for about 6 months and started going to AA meetings as drinking was getting out of control ,drinking in bed first thing in the mornin etc.I stayed clear of it and was doin well but sadly went back on it.These days i only have a few beers at home on the weekend and i can control it thank god but its always only one slip away back into them dark days
Marvin 193
I can take it or leave it, i can go for months without alcohol, but do like a binge every now and then. Due to the work i do i come across a lot of people who use drink in one way or another and a few who have turned their backs on it, one thing i will say though, the people who choose to leave drink on their own accord are quite easy going regarding other people drinking, whilst the ones who have been through the twelve steps are mostly an obnoxious, self righteous bunch, and in the same way pensioners feel the need to tell you their age AA members cannot fight the urge to tell you how long they have been dry. Isnt that a good thing....that they feel a bit pride in themselves that they have beaten there habit and can now move on with there life. I'd rather listen to a recovering alcoholic than a pissed up twat who who said they stopped for 2 months but continue to make a dick of themselves..........

skycat 6,173
I was never a regular drinker at all, but a bottle of red wine lasts me a month these days: just a splash in the bottom of the glass before dinner: like the taste, don't like the effect. The last time I got pissed must be about 12 years ago when someone asked me to 'look after' their bottle of whisky at a show. The rest is a blur, though I vaguely remember trying to sing with the band that evening  before I must have passed out. Never again: hangover to end all hangovers: 2 litres of real lemonade before I could even see straight the next day. Just not worth the misery IMO, though how anyone can afford to drink these days I don't understand.

MoChara 1,632
I haven't had a drink for a year (end of this month). And dont plan on on having one anytime soon either. I was bad on it from the age of 15+, and wish i had never set eyes on it tbh. Dont really care what others think, call me boring, but i cant be arsed with the drink anymore. And well done to anyone who has went off it and stayed off it, seen many a one who tried and failed over and over again

Don't get me wrong they have done well but the ethos behind the twelve steps is nothing more than cult led brainwashing and it is my personal opinion the people who have accepted they have a drink problem and combat it and get on with their lives leaving the shadow of their past where it belongs, in the past, they are the true fighters of the disease, well done to anyone who has beaten any kind of addiction and not just replaced it. WILF 46,639
Theres having a drink and then theres having a drink......some folk who insist on having a booze should never go near the stuff, other it dont effect at all. A couple of my pals can sink truly massive amounts of grog and it dont effect how they are one bit..... I have been give up 17 years and now I couldnt hack it even if I wanted one........I can have a beer or a glass of wine if I am out for a meal, but thats not "having a drink"........having a drink would mean getting the bollock ache with something and wrecking the joint so it looked like Beirut, all my mates f*****g off, f*****g all the barmaids in the local, having a set too with the nearest bouncer in a club, going to the kebab shop and having another set too with 4 or 5 lads and waking up in a strange town with a tart !!! Me drunk didnt really go with being a family man and it meant more to me to be a family man, so I made a choice.
