Sorry for sounding a dick.....but what does the term " going light " mean ?

 

 

in pigeons it generally means coccidiosis, im sure its used in same way for wee birds, could be wrong tho

spot on mate,there are 3 terms for the disease, coccidiosis, atoxoplasmosis and isosporosis, larger birds such as pigeons suffer from coccidiosis and smaller birds such as finches suffer from isosporosis

they can mate but its very sporadic and very few cases have been reported,whereas with aviary birds its as common as shit in a field

too late mate once they get the symptons,you add a sulphur based drug to their water during their 1st moult an this usually prevents it,and once through their 1st moult theyre usually safe, but,theres feck all you can do once theyve got it

Like craigy says in the wild it don't happen to often and hence why a lot of bird keepers do there best with supplying wild food at this time of year as imo and like others captive bred birds do miss out on something they get in the wild to help prevent this happening and these days more keepers don't want to drug their birds just for the sake of it type thing.

you buy a sulphur based drug,theres one called intradine which has to be prescribed by a vet and is fecking costly and not worth it unless you breed very large amounts,theres another called esb3,the best place to get that is an online vet suppliers,but for the life of me i cant remember what its called

Could the spraying of VirkonS help reduce the risk of the bird's contracting this horrible disease..i use it on my bow perches for the hawk and around the weathering area to help try and prevent several problem bacteria and foot problem's..

not sure about that particular disease millet but the virkon is top quality stuff for cleanliness
