hi all, i have a pair of max 4 polar zone boots.

like these:

ok so it says that they are waterproof and i suppose they were for a while but i have them a year now and once water hits them they soak it up like a sponge.

i have been through a few sites looking for advice on the upkeep of them or should i be coating them with something but cant find any info anywhere !!

i was in a hunting shop yesterday and came across a product called "mcnett thunder shield waterproofer" which is a silicone water repellent so i bought that.

i have now applied 2 coats to the boots but have not been out in the wet yet to test them.

so does anybody else have a pair of these and how do they keep them waterproof ??

The main problem with any boot, is that the outside material will always soak up the water eventually, and it is the waterproof liner that stops the water getting in.

With time though, the liner cracks, usually at the flex points like the ankle and toes, and this cannot be repaired.

If the boots are a total leather outer they can be kept waterproof as you would have done years ago, with dubbin, beeswax etc, but many synthetic/fabric boots that wont work as well with fabric waterproofers.

I use Meindl Sport Wax on mine to keep them supple and waterproof, work's upto now, when i worked down the pit we used dubbin on our boots for the same reason, if i could get it in the amounts we used i wouldnt look at anything else, good stuff that dubbin, buster.
