Guest bullterrier
if you phone the skipper of the boat your going to be fishing from he should be able to tell you what bait and tackle you will need mate good luck and have a nice day Quote Link to post
hafod 1
have a good trip :thumbs-up: just remember iff you gonna be sick, dont do it over the multiplyer, when you reel it flys everywhere the water starts to get a bit clearer down that way,so there may be a few about :thumbs-up:you will probably be using mackrel as a tope bait,so the skipper may put you over a few first to get fresh bait, Edited June 7, 2007 by hafod Quote Link to post

wife 1
how did you get on over at minehead i have a mate who fishes out from there neer enough every weekend not realy a place i like to fish went on a freind of a freinds boat for a days fishing and with a good few other lads ,first off we went over to minehead just off a few miles of butlins minehead in search of some tope,we had a good load of groundbait to get the fish feeding a mixture of turkey blood mixed in with 150lb in weight of lamb meat,a good 50 mackerel and 20lb in weight of squid,we drop this down attached to the anchor in a hesian bag and it slowly comes out with the pull of the tide and the blood trail along with all the bits of fish and meat go down tide and any fish go into a feeding frenzy(pic of some of the ground bait when it was getting mixed which smells really sweet when the sun hits it the ground bait certainly got the fish feeding but we could not get past the dog fish ,it was a good feet deep down to the bottom and we were using size 8 hooks which is a big hook if you do not know your hooks and we were using whole mackerel as bait, the moment our weights and bait hit the bottom our rods were nodding, within the first 30 mins we must of landed around 60 doggies between 13 of us,only took the 1 pic of a doggie as was saving the camera for the better fish, pic of a doggy below or other wise known as a rock salmon we decided to move the boat and fish some rougher ground which went onto some sandbanks, again we started catching doggies then a few of the lads started hooking into some good rays,3 different varietys of rays were caught which were thornbacks with the best thornback weighing just over 11lb and small eyed rays weighing in 3-5 lb and some blondes going up to 7lb,almost everybody caught rays on this spot besides me and some of the rays took a good ten minutes to get up off the bottom and into the boat as the tide had started to run strong, few pics of some of the rays caught below when it came to slack water the congers started to feed,a good few of us hooked into congers but as some of the lads were not using wire traces they lost here congers,i quickly made a wire trace and landed a conger and the lad next to me hooked another which i hate to say was bigger than mine, as usual we had a good buch of seagulls following the boat all day getting any scraps of fish that were getting chucked in,the sea gulls get that confident if you hold a mackerel in your hand outstretched they will hover above you and take it out of your hand, these ones were that bad than when you casted out they went for the bait as it flew through the air,2 of them caught it and we had a bit of a struggle trying to land them both as somehow they had both managed to get caught on 1 hook, once in the boat one of them come off and we had to care fully take the hook out of the sea gulls mouth while it was trying to peck hell out of us looking forward to getting out next month out off swansea after bass,so fingers crossed will get some more pics up ..............
