3175darren 1,100
End of 2010 into 2011 I took on a pond local to me, around a two weeks into the close season,I saw birds dailly getting off the pond, however throught the summer of 2011 the pond choked up with grass, and weed, this I think totally ruined 2011 season with little or no birds coming to the pond dispite feeding twice a week every week, any way I set about sorting the problem this year the pond was majorly over grown around the banks So I decided to cear a 2 meter piece all around the banks as my thoughts were that any bird sat on there would be vulnerable from the bank, allso while the pond was dry in early summer sprayed the weed off in the bottom, this is the end result I allso sprayed the far bank as the strimmer would not touch it,too tough this will die back on its own,I started feeding the pond two weeks ago now and allready I am starting to see ducks coming in to feed, all the little flashes on the land are starting to show signs too I supose what I am asking if theres any one out there with any Ideas of what else I can do, I would much appreaciate them,or even there thoughts on what I have done good or bad, will help me I am feeding barley and a bit of wheat at the moment, and this is the first pond I have had where this problem has arisen,I do beleive the main cause was predators, and beleive I have done all I can to give the ducks a fair chance,so your thoughts please Darren
peter121 6
hello darren. looks to me you have done a great job in the close season. imho. dont go over the top try to keep it as natural as you can. what depth is the pond not to deep so the ducks can tip to feed.good clearings between trees for the flight in/out . hope this helps mate good luck on the coming season .
3175darren 1,100
Hi it's 2 to 3 feet max depth
Mark White 25
the pond dont look like it would be big enough to put a inland in the middle but may be you could put a couple of pallets in the middle for them to sit on as they will feel safer and hange around a bit more. other then that it looks good. are you feeding on the bank if so throw a little in the water around the edge.
