slip hound 32 Posted August 18, 2012 Report Share Posted August 18, 2012 i used to srtip out wire fox terriers!!little by little you will need alot of time on your hands and small grab of hair at a time stripping not pulling!! u will need stipping knife index finger at the back of knife and thumb at the front and just strip away movining with the direction of the hair!! wuyang 513 Posted August 18, 2012 Report Share Posted August 18, 2012 With regards to using a trimmer or knife and the effect on coat. If for example you were to trim a west highland terrier with a electric trimmer, over time the coat becomes more silky and tangles so much more easily. Using a stripping knife creates much courser hair over time that is easier to brush through and won't tangle as much. Hand stripping a lurcher like you can a terrier would take a while. My lurcher has a very dense short coat and i just use a stripping knife, very gently like a comb, its the best tool around for getting the under coat out. Another good item, which is very cheap are rubber curry brushes which they use on horses, but i just use this for a general light brush over. It really depends on the coat though. Quote Link to post

Jumpin'Jack 68 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Share Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) Can't beat hand stripping the coat. Them furminators didn't work on my dog and I cut him with a stripping knife. Hand stripping takes a bit longer and makes your hands/fingers ache but I think the results are better. The pictures were taken at different times but you get the idea..
