What Calibre?

I,ll bet you were using softpoints in the hornet peg? i used to load mine fairly hot with a v-max, and they did the trick. I believed the hornet wasnt shoving a softpoint fast enough for violent expansion on a fox, but you have obviously more meat on a deer, so more time for it to mushroom?

I was using soft points baldie your right.I was reloading but close to the minimum load.I should maybe have loaded abit higher but lost faith in the little gun.

You are probably bang on with your explaination but i went onto a .222 and never looked back :hunter:

just to add fuel to the fire :11:

.25-06 remington

i never looked back since i got this calibre very versatile for homeloading and one helluva flat shooting calibre basically a .243 with a bit more ooommmphhh yes i know it aint a technical term but so far as a one rifle for all jobs tool its fairing me very very well.

mine is a sauer classic 202 synthetic stock and i put a pez12 sound mod on... each to their won but i think its the mutts nuts!!!!! :good:

I realy dont think the 25.05 would fit into this post while you are wright it is a very flat shooting round it is infact a .30.06 knecked down to 25 cal and will perform beter with heavey bullets eg 100grain plus not realy use for long distance virmin also he would need to explain why he was going to move from a known varmint calibre . eg the .223 with its small action on to the long action of the 25.06. [bANNED TEXT] HE ALREADY OWNS ITS BIG BROTHER. :hunter::icon_eek: JMO

i think the 2506 is classed as a varmit caliber like the 243. but on a larger scale than the 223, still a awesome round to shoot and a handloaders dream, when i feel like a change from my 3006 i'm getting a 25 cal tube put on my rifle :good: had a remington for a few years and was so mild to shoot and could reach out and tag goats at some unreal ranges! rabbits and hares{they are classed as pest over here} were just red stains on the grass after being hit with a 75gr boattail at 3500

i am fairly new to this home loading caper and i realise he has the big brother and i should have pointed out it was my opinion if whoever was looking for one rifle as an all rounder...i only own the .25-06 ( apart from my little .22).

when i was thinkin bout this calibre i read up on it and it apparently came from guys shooting the great plains in the US where they couldnt get close due to lack of cover and were shooting at 300 400 yards. ( i got history wrong here?).

i also know a guy whose uses 80 grn bullet head regular and they do the job for him ( hes a gamie ) i myself have been using 120grn nossler partion heads but i have some 115grn nossler ballistic tip( hunting) to try so will see what happens with them.

i am using 30-06 and 270 brasses myself for this calibre.

im biased but i dinnae care i love it :hunter::hunter::hunter: .

hheheheeee

It is a very good gun mate but my point was not to bring the calibre down but to put the post back in to context 2506 is a nice rifle and because it has a long case can be loaded to the max and put out real power the round that should be put through it for best performance are between 110gain to 130grain that isnt to say you cant fire lower weight bullets and still get success. But it cant realy be put on a parralel with the .22 centre fires mate. thats like the dofferece between a darkies dick and mine :icon_eek:
