We've got dog thieves but hunters around here are mainly hound hunters. Terriers are looked down at. I've had dogs go missing this year but I can't prove they were stolen or just got out of the yard. Men who hunt with terriers are so few and far apart that if one comes by your place he's likely to have gone a few hundred miles or thousands.

That's fair enough, it's a different culture over here by the sound of it. There are lurcher/terrier men in or around every town, city and a lot of villages. Most are only walking distance from another dog man. I bet every single person on this site knows of another lurcher/terrier man within 10 miles of his kennels. That's not to say there are a lot of us, just that Britain is a relatively small place, lol. And out of all those there are a lot of thieving cheating wankers. There's plenty with 'no fixed abode' as well.
