hayne5 0
ive got a tikka t3 light 222-50 which i have been struggling with on foxes around 200 yards plus, been shooting a few targets tonight at 100 yards and its bang on every time but out at 200 yards it seems to be shooting high and to the right it was in a clamp to hold it really still but could this be causing it if it was too tight? the ammo im using are 55gr pcm they are cheap so could also be the problem any ideas gladly recieved Quote Link to post
remi700 99
Where is the clamp holding the rifle? Anything clamping down on the barrel can knock a rifle off because the barrel cant move as it should when firing. Id also try different ammo and see if the problem stays the same. 55 gr Hornadays shoot best out of mine but its worth trying out a few different brands to see what works for you. danw 1,748
if you zero with the rifle in a clamp the gun will recoil differently to when it is in the shoulder and that will change your point of aim Quote Link to post
hayne5 0
i had it clamped in a work bench starting just in front of the trigger but it was really well padded out and i only did it up so it was just tight enough to hold the gun in place nothing was touching the barrell ill try some different ammo and see if that makes a difference, thanks Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,102
If it was anything major it would be wrong at 100 as well check the barrel float, and make sure everythings tight, then I would look at the ammo I really dont like clamping guns, you must get used to it, you cant stop and clamp it each time you see a fox, good luck Darren Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
best to practice until you can place the shot at the distance you want to shoot too, A bullet which groups well at 100 sometimes may not group well at another distance, so i suggest you place a few rounds downrange, and see whats happening at various ranges, Also at longer distances small errors you make on firing technique become amplified downrange, Snap. jamie g 17
as the guys above said. imo its the ammo though Quote Link to post
markha 99
My tuppence is ammo and putting your lighTweight gun in a vice to check its accuracy instead of practicing good marksmanship technique. 200yds is not that far for a 223, and you should easily get 1.5"- 2" group from a T3 Light, its a stalker not a heavy barrel long range varminter. Also if you have an extended zero session at 100 and zero once your barrel has warmed up you may well have zerod to a POI after the barrel has 'walked its way in' so when you then take a cold bore shot at 200 you would be on your way to a spanking from the start. Go and re-zero with one shot and not in a vice, then let the barrel cool for atleast 1/2hr then take 2nd shot and check zero, then move back to 200 and see what is what. Quote Link to post
Jono Hicks 0
I only sight my rifles in the exact conditions I plan in shooting in... As in - I don't see the point in using a clamp as in the field you won't be able too. I would check your rings - are they tight? Quote Link to post
