Yokel Matt 918
Go with someone who has done this before to get you to show you the ropes... there's a lot more to it than just bolting bunnies. Dispatching them is quick and painless when done properly Quote Link to post

Rob 0
Jackie Drackesford book on ferreting explains in detail the different methods Quote Link to post
doddsy1970 9
As localyokel said go with someone experienced. You cant learn everything from a book and practising on an animal can cause it harm and sufffering. Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Yes i agree go with an experienced ferreter, respect for the quary is an absolute must & a quick kill,i couldnt live with my self if i thought the animal had suffered due to me not doing it properly Quote Link to post
Guest ARTEMIS
I was shown by my brother-in-law (tourrettes Johnny) how to neck them - that is hold the feet of the rabbit in one hand, get it just behind the neck with the other hand (between your forefinger and your thumb) and pull - sharp and hard - to break it's neck. It was very quick and painless (I assume), but we did once have the mystery of one that came to life again...... but only the once (and might I add several hours later!), and we thought it such a lucky bugger we let it go again! :guitar2: It's best to get shown by someone I think - rather than just reading up on it. not saying you shouldn't read either - just get someone to show you too In my humble opinion! micky 3,325
hi all as you will be able to see from this post im fairly new to hunting and was windering once my ferret has bolted the rabbit out of the hole and into the net how do i go about killing it?? rabbits are easy to kill, to gain a bit of confidence ,kill a dead one ,IE one thats been shot or ran over,do what ARTEMIS says and you will feel its neck break, after a couple of these you should have the abilty to tackle a live one, in my opinion.if you feel you need a priest to kill a rabbit ,you should not take up ferretting. micky Quote Link to post

gibby 0
Good advice from micky regarding trying it on dead rabbits first. It shouldnt take many attempts at breaking their necks to be confident at doing it. Real quick and humane when you know how Quote Link to post
