What to do when the customer as tried to trap the mole

Recommended Posts

Hi all got a call to a mole problem 2 weeks ago when i arrived the folks had a go a trapping this mole, the traps they had set were scissors and was set VERY BADLY and they told me "it keeps setting them off" lol.

So i placed some talpex thinking that will sort the job but no, i have tried 5 different styles of trap on this but it just wont have it, same old story blocking the hole, pushing soil into the trap, going around the trap so on and so on.

Before anyone says your not setting the trap correctly ie bad trapmanship i caught a mole right at the other end of the garden on the first day,and im catching moles 2 miles down the road at a 100% catch rate,im not the best mole catcher but i do no where and how to set a trap.

If anyone as any surgestions on this i would be very grateful as this little chap is really going to town on this lawn and the couple that live there are nice people plus is making me look like a right tit lol.

If you want to pm me with any help please do. Thanks all

I would suggest by what you have written that you are setting the talpex traps in the wrong way.

These traps work on the principal that the tunnel has collapsed, so if you had set the trap in the correct way, it would be impossible for the mole to push soil into the trap, as there would already be soil in the trap.

I had the same problem with a mole that I just could not catch ....

But I was lucky and I had Chalkwarren, 1 day later the mole was dead ....

Simples ...........

That's not your fault, you can't help some situations that you find yourself in. Just put it down to one of life's lessons?

Yea i understand what your saying mate i do set talpex in the manner you have said, the talpex is being set off by the mole pushing soil into the the fine soil that i have back filled and triggering,it as even dug underneath and pushed the trap up lol,the barrel traps get blocked up, thanks

find a main run & not a feeding run & try using a half barrel trap, if your trying to trap in the same area as the customer its probably in the wrong place, find a run along a fence or wall

Got to admit I'm in a similar position. There are four tumps along the line of a patio, presumably the main runs are under the patio. The run into the garden follows the wall, right up against it. I placed a Talpex in one run and a Duffus in another. The Dufus had been tweaked the day before so was very sensitive. Next morning the Talpex had gone off with no capture, it had tunnelled below it, and the Duffus had also gone off and been pushed up at one end. Since then the mole has tunnelled under the traps every time.

When this has happened out on the fileds where there are more tumps and defined runs I've closed the mole down, a bit like putting road blocks up and moving the traps into the active area to confine it. Eventually it has either made a mistake and got trapped or moved elsewhere.
