im going to be perfectly honest with you .. dont piss about ,get the pup back to the breeder( IF) it is found to be , deaf. ,and stop worryhing about future litters theres enough lurchers out there

I have agreed with the breeder to return him, to be fair to the guy i think he genuinly didnt know. Im gutted as i now have to start looking again but i cant do anything but agree with everyones comme

I don't say this lightly mate, but take the pup back to the breeder it's his responsibility, go and source another pup, it's hard enough getting a lurcher to an acceptable standard without a drawback

he has got this ad on pre loved to.......

You live and learn mate.

Its a hard lesson sometimes...But your lucky to have sussed it and dealt with it quickly and without too much hassle.

Put up a post asking for a pup if anyones breeding or got a litter due and you might be suprised at the PMs you might get from the decent geezers around this site..

Dont forget a lot of litters are never advertised for sale becasue they are bred for purpose and to order.

Good luck

No disrespect but there might be a few more hazards but in respect to trainability I think it's possible. some people don't even train verbal commands into dogs. Let the dog work it out for it self so to speak, and hand signals, if any deaf dog could get a working life it would be a collie x , wanna see jonnyboys dog off here you could be mute the whole day and she just seems to know what to do. Any dog with repitition can learn anything it's just finding the link to what will work with that pup. If it was blind that would be an issue but hearing is not the primary sense to a working dog , just my opinion

I have to agree with you Chalkwarren: I do know someone who is an excellent trainer who has a deaf Saluki: this dog does have a good quality of life, but it has to be said that its disability does cause some problems for the owner: you hit the nail on the head when you said " in the hand of a novice, an accident waiting to happen".
