im going to be perfectly honest with you .. dont piss about ,get the pup back to the breeder( IF) it is found to be , deaf. ,and stop worryhing about future litters theres enough lurchers out there

I have agreed with the breeder to return him, to be fair to the guy i think he genuinly didnt know. Im gutted as i now have to start looking again but i cant do anything but agree with everyones comme

I don't say this lightly mate, but take the pup back to the breeder it's his responsibility, go and source another pup, it's hard enough getting a lurcher to an acceptable standard without a drawback

I remember taking a mates full litter of Dalmation pups to a vets at cambridge to have there hearing tested, they put a small probes above each ear and one on the forehead all linked to a laptop to test them. Thankfully all of them were ok. I think it cost my mate £25 per pup

I would suggest using a sense such as feel a vibrating pager or your gf's bullet if its wireless operation should do the trick. Attach to the collar and do normal recall training but instead of the audible command press your button and get the vibration as the command. This method should stop you requiring the dog to see you to determine hand signals etc.

id keep the pup mate if thats what you want hand signals and other methods can surely be used ive seen many different signals used to turn a dog onto something and call it back in for another slip a good handler can make a decent dog if the time and effort are put in atb mate.
