My dogs a Whippet x Beddlington collie grey 19tts and she seems to do the job......

All lurchers will catch you rabbits but if i was after a rabbiting dog it would after be a beddy x whippet or similar but the best rabbiting dog iv seen and owned was a collie whippet greyhound but she sadly broke her leg so shes now living it up with my mates nanna atb

I decided on a mixture of......whippet/bedlington x collie/greyhound/whippet, early days yet......8 months, very sensitive bitch, slowly coming out of her shell. Had to laugh the other day when out, something made a russling sound in a bush and she shot about 20 yards away in the other direction. 18 inch at minute.

allways some smart arses on here... just thout it was a nice topic to start to see what every ones opinion on THERE ideal rabbiting dog...some tidy awsners on here but why post total rubish on here? if its no intrest why even open the topic up.

same old shit on here, full of idiots

Look silentstrummer, Sorry If it comes over negative but some us have been on these forums a long old time, and this stuff comes up again and again week after week. ie: whats the best rabbit dog etc etc, and there are literally hundreds of threads on it. ;)

My "ideal" rabbit dog is one that catchs rabbits  , is capable of taking a few knocks is well built, marks, catchs, retrieves with a soft mouth, works the lamp free of a slip lead if needed and most importantly is steady and of good temperment. As far as breeding It doesnt really worry me, all this 1/4 of this and a 1/3 this is crap, its the dogs working ability that REALLY maters, but we all have a preference for breeding and type. Personally I like a good splodge of collie it really helps with focus, hardiness and stamina, and its better if its over 20" and under 25"

Hows that for you?

i have 3 we beedy xs and they suit me for the ground i do ideal we dogs for me the colliexs are great rabbits dogs to maybe a we mix of the two would be sound mostly ferreting i do and mouching great fun good luck

Spot on northernlite, I have a 21" 3/4whipp x1/4 beddy very racy, she's a good bitch but I think she lacks a in size for the ideal rabbiting dog, so I put a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie over her and kept a bitch pup from her hopefully to make around 23" ? 24"? From what I've seen of dogs around this height I believe they are ideal for the rabbiting job? I'm not knocking other 21" dogs, just my own preference
