What value crosman 2250b?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Im looking at buying myself a springer to replace my crosman 2250b, Hoping to sell the crosman to recoup some of the cost. Ive got no idea at all on second hand gun values, its got a silencer and 4x40 scope it works fine and its just been serviced with all new seals etc, although there are some minor rust patches in places. As I understand it these guns arent particularly desireable, so I was just wandering what price I should set to sell it reasonably fast. Also wandering if Im best splitting it and selling the pieces on ebay...

I got a 2250B at the meet for a tenner, granted it had been cutdown into a pistol and it needed a fair bit of work doing to it and it's now back to being a rifle again.

Generally most people ask for about 2 thirds of the new price to 3 quarters of the new price.

As you say they are not particularly desirable but they ARE very customisable and stripping and selling for spares could quite possible be the best option, there are always Ratty bits and bobs on eBay.

You could always advertise it in the second hand sales on here or advertise it on Gun Star.

Good luck with the sale what ever way you decide to go

Incidently, whats the output of it in ft/lbs and what pellets did they use to chrono it?

Im not 100% certain on the pellet brand, the tin lid wasnt on, I believe it was a 14.5 weight I think it might have been RWS super domes. It made a less than spectacular 7.45 ft lbs, an average 481 FPS. That was with a fresh co2 cartridge put in at the start of the test.

Not too bad then, for a Ratty, I managed to bring mine up to almost 8 before I blew the valve  replacement valve arrived today, so the softer hammer spring goes back in when I fit the new valve later this week.

The 2250b is a good starter gun for youngsters these days, as my lad can attest to.

The silencer will certainly help the sale although the 4x40 scope isn't much help to the weapon as it does require a minimum of 10x mag to shoot effectively (field targets).

If as you say it's a "bit of rust" then I would think around £60 secondhand.

I payed £140 brand new for the lads three months ago.

10X???

I've shot deer with a .243 at 150 yards with a 4x mag scope. Big mag isn't always a good thing. In fact, you tend to get more glass for your money with a lower mag scope.

I assumed it was on the low side for a ratty :D, but Im new to this stuff. I have considered keeping it to modify at a later date, Ive seen some interesting things done to them and I like the way they come apart so easily.

But I have to justify the new gun to the wife. So selling the old one to pay towards the new one gets that done, and a springer at close to the legal limit with a scope will bring me a step closer to the goal of rabbiting. Im joining a club tomorrow so I can start practising to make sure I can get good clea head shots before I go out and get some permissions.

.243!

As I'm sure your aware the velocity of your rounds travel far exceed the .22 @14.3 grain pellet traveling around 580 fps the ratty could potentially reach?

The 10x mag purely allows the shooter to see what they have hit such as a paper card at 25yards!

4x 40 does not allow the shooter with this weapon a good of a view of the target!

If it's a deer or other large animal, then as you know the falling over of the hit target would indicate a hit.

Joining a club would certainly answer a few question for you bud

If you have a use for an air rifle then you should have no trouble justifying it to the wife :-)

I felt the scope was over powered, given the limited usefull range of the gun, but at the gun shop doing the testing (not the selling) they told me it was ideal for the usefull range of the gun for hunting purposes (rats at relatively close range). The guns clearly no good for rabbiting at 20-30 yards. I would guess being on a target range its different. Ive not had a chance to test accurate shooting over real distances yet.

I guess that although the magnification "looks" good when looking across the valley etc to my untrained eyes, its a bit different to seeing your pellet hole at real range. at 10m it was no issue whatsoever to get some good groupings using the scope  . Ive got a fair idea of a potential customer for the gun though, and I reckon at £60-70 he would snap it up. it knocks the price on my new springer down to £100.

Ive got a use for the new rifle for certain, but not really for the old one :(, the old one isnt up to providing rabbits, the new one is. The new one will work just as well at the target range as the old one, so theres no "good" excuse for having both.

Yeah they do call it a rat catcher for a reason :-)

My lad shoots that exact gun and had big issues with hitting targets accurately and consistently using just 4 mag!

It was only when I got 3-9x40 scope he managed to hit bulleyes at 25yards consistently, it was far to random and difficult before due to the lack of visibility.

They are a nice gun though, I customised the stock to suit the lads 11year olds shoulders.

The weight of the gun is also very good for those long stints in the field shooting rabbits at 10- 25yrds effectively.

Not that I've done that! But I've had the odd few pop up so close I can't even turn my other rifle to shoot them :-)

Just been looking at the stats on CGP, I'd not have any problems using a Ratty at around 8ft/lbs out to 35 yards on bunnies.

A Crosman Prem will impart above 5ft/lbs to the brain at that range, much more than it takes to kill a bunny

I cant wait to get it back into working condition and give it a try in the field

I had it out a few weeks ago when it was running at about 4-5 ft/lbs in the cemetery (Chris was with me) and it was chucking the lead out to our 30 yard markers
