mealiejimmy 1
I'll shortly be applying for a variation to aquire a rifle to shoot fox and roe deer (I'm in Scotland) but I'm not sure what the best calibre and bullet type/weight would be. I'm thinking about 223, but not sure if some of the similar sized calibers (22-250 etc) might be better. All constructive comments welcomed. Cheers Bruce Quote Link to post
Richie10 345
.243, you can use it in the UK then. 1 Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,100
I personally would go for 243 for fox and roe mate I know 223 is legal in scotland, but 243 is on top of its job for roe and fox fox you can load down to 60 grains for fox or up to 100 grain for roe although I always used 75 grain hollow point for fox and 85 grain soft point for roe, they are flat enough shooting for both at reasonably ranges, Quote Link to post
paulus 26
243 mate, overkill is far better than underkill when it comes to killing 1 Quote Link to post

hunter1 63
243 dead is dead no such thing as over kill. Quote Link to post
EnglishBulldog 14
.243 can't go wrong. Quote Link to post
PlasticJock 539
I've applied for .308 for both, you never know if you'll have the chance to go for something bigger and a lot of estates/stalks have calibre restrictions. Also, I won't be making any money on deer for quite some time so as far as I'm concerned meat damage is out the window. But having said that, .243 by all accounts is the better option Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,935
243 I have used it for years on both. Saying that, I`ve just bought a BSA 222 will see how I get on with that as well. Shot 22-250 once and didn`t get on with it, I found it super loud as well Edited to add,,, if the 222 shoots as well as I remember there might be a cheap Parker Hale 243 with possibly a Meopta on it going for sale Quote Link to post

Yes Martin as I explained to the feo, I haven't got the money for 30 different calibres so rather have a one size fits all... I'd love to reload but again now isn't the right time to start, but yes the versatility would be great Quote Link to post

PlasticJock 539
Haven't got the room or time. Plus the 30 years it would take for me to get it lol, I'd rather find a decent brand and stick with them. Quote Link to post
