fox assasin 16
as said above lads what would you give it out of 10? Does a quickset really make any differance to the traditional ? Cheers atb Quote Link to post
smithie 2,443
It depends what you want it for. Day time ferreting• poaching or general night time netting. Its faster but hard to run with and it does not hide very well. And much easier to use 1 Quote Link to post
Mr Wilkes 3,066
10/10 for what its designed for (catching rabbits) but as smithie says its not exactly a poachers tool, not that i do that sort of thing . Quote Link to post
foxtails 272
ovcourse they make a difference because quicksets already have the poles attached theyr quicker to put out ,traditional you have to run the net then attach the poles seperatly,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but i am still to catch a rabbit in the longnet yet,,but hopfully this season ill bag my first rabbit,as iv had alot more practice with the nets Quote Link to post
longnetter 32
10 out of 10. much quicker to run out/pick up. Time it right and you don't have to run with it............err so I'm lead to believe Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
7 out of 10. Pro's. Easy to set out, fairly quick to set out, as long as the net is set up right the bags is tied in every 5 yards or however many yards your pegs are set at. As long as you can walk backwards you can set a net. Con's The net is great on football fields as soon as there is any undulation in the land that does not coincide with the placement of the pegs you will either have a gap under the net or the headline touching the ground. Without stabalisers on the end of the net the pegs are fond of falling over when a rabbit hits the net. They hurt your back when you are picking the net up, that is because you have that fecking great monstrosity of a basket in front of you, and you cannot keep your back straight and reach over the basket to collect the netting. I would love someone to show me how to set a quick set in this hedge. TC Edited August 13, 2012 by tiercel 2 Quote Link to post
vermin catcher 219
I love my two quicksets and use them only for ferreting but as Teircel above has stated you can forget trying to use them as he has did on the top of that bank it just wouldn't work.Think its a bit harsh to say they are only good on football fields but i can also understand what he means, as if the ground is really uneven you will get gaps under your bottom line and i have missed a few rabbits going under. That said, i still wouldn't be without them ferreting as they are easy to use and they allow me to surround warrens that me and other ferreters find impossible to purse net. Have never tried traditional so can't comment, but can see the advantages of them on uneven ground and banks like above. For someone who knew nothing about real longnetting nor had anyone to show me,the quickset made my life alot easier and i could use it straight from the box with instant results. For that reason alone ill give them a 10..........because without them i never would have started longnetting Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Not had any problems in ditches, I just let the top and bottom line go limp to the shape of the dyke, I'll put a peg on the bottom line if I have to, as long as your poles are upright, it should still catch, as soon as the bottom line touches the ground it normaly stays there, it doesn't really bother me that the top line is blowing in the breeze as long as it stops a bolters. Stuff traditional, lifes to short to prat about with poles, so for that reason I'm giving the quickset 10 out of 10 Quote Link to post
Rabbiting man 1,192
Don't like the quickset it's a idle mans way of setting a long net I stick with the traditional way of long netting which is a art and the way I was shown. 5 Quote Link to post

jimster68 123
long nets get 10 out of 10 from me ,i cover all types of ground and the only real draw back ive found is if theres a lot of debris about it can take some time to to clear from the nets ,apart from that i wouldnt be without them ,there quick to set out and no more rolling around under bushes and scrub with purse nets only to find the rabbits fecked off from the only hole youve missed ..........jim Quote Link to post
