brianc1 2
Went to my new perm for the second time but this time i went alone . Got there just after 4pm (i think it might have been a bit early for the bunnies) ,not much about except for one bunny sitting just the other side of some hay bails . I got right behind the bails and rested over the top and put the cross hairs right on target and took the shot and missed . Pellet went right over the top . I either had the range wrong or I have knocked my scope at some point I put a target up to check my zero and I was shooting almost an inch high and a bit left at 30 yards so I adjusted and took a couple more shots in the prone position using my home made shooting sticks and it was spot on . Pellet on pellet right in the centre of the target (i will do this first next time) So off I went into the next field . Not much in this one so off to the next one eventually I found a bunny about 15 yards away but the grass was too long to lie down so I had to take a standing shot . I wounded him but he didnt get far and stopped while making a noise and I got a second shot that finished him off . Not the best start but I had one for the pot. I then walked back to the farm house and had a quick look over a small wall and there was a small deer stood there about 20 yards away . I watched it for a little while and it walked off and I seen a bit of movement in the corner of my eye ,a rabbit who had seen me . I slowly shouldered my rifle and rested on the wall and took a lovely shot ,right behind the eye . He jumped what looked about 3 feet into the air and landed on his back . His mate then came over to see what had happened but he stopped just behind a tree where I couldnt get a decent veiw so he managed to get away while I was moving to get a shot in . I went back to my car to put the 2 in the boot and it was nearly 6pm so I thought I would go for another walk around . This time there were loads of rabbits about but they kept seeing me before I saw them . I eventually seen about 8 sitting on the grass infront of a hedge row but they were over 100 yards away but at least they had not seen me yet . I got on all fours and crept along the hedge row stopping every now and then to check the range with my range finder . I was getting closer but it was taking a long time . I finally got 34 yards away from the front rabbit . I got into the prone position with my short shooting sticks and lined the shot up . the gun slipped off the sticks and landed with a thump . They all looked up and I kept very still . They then carried on eating . I had got away with it . I lined up again and took the shot . Perfect head shot . I went to the end of the field and had a fag and watched some rabbits playing in the corner . I decided to have another stalk through the long grass and it paid off with another perfect head shot . 4 rabbits and I decided to call it a day at this point . I walked accross all the fields back to the car and saw loads more rabbits but thought I would leave them for another day . Just as I got to the farm house there was a rabbit sitting next to the horse stables and I thought it would be rude not to take the shot lol . Bunny number 5 in the bag with another well placed head shot . A really good trip but what a pain to clean up 5 rabbits !! I think I need to watch some vids on youtube to find an easier way of doing it as it took over an hour to get them all done . 1 Quote Link to post

Mawders 595
I don't think there is an easy way you just have to get stuck in and get dirty lol Certainly not my favourite part of shooting. 1 Quote Link to post

Ron Weasley 83
Over an hour to do 5 rabbits? You definitely need some practice! I can skin one ready for the pot in under 2 minutes if it's fresh. I paunched 27 on wednesday night in under an hour! Anyway, glad you got out and put a few in the bag! Don't forget your camera next time. Ron. Quote Link to post
