Guest Lurchers2006
I know a lad that lives down the road from me has just got rid of his lurcher, he got it for lamping rabbits and hares mainly plus the odd fox, when it was time for the dog to be started it turned out to be good on the lamp but wouldnt touch a fox, At 16 months he was regularly catching 20 rabbits and this is in places that th dog has to catch nearly everyone to make the 20 mark, However the dog wouldnt retrieve his catch, When it was found that the dog wasnt doing fox or deer the lad said hed keep him for the lamp but when the dog wouldnt retrieve he said the dog could never be classed as a good lamp dog so he sold it. Now if all You wanted was a lamping dog is this dog a good dog or a bad dog? Edited June 4, 2007 by Lurchers2006 Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Depends what you need the dog for. Sounds as he was disapointed and got rid. Over the years, i have made that mistake, we all do, human nature, but, lately, i have carefully veted the pup i want, to make sure, both parents regularily take what im after, i try and get to see them work, but its not allways easy. Did he teach it to retreive at all? The dog sounded a good rabbit dog, if nowt else? Frank. Quote Link to post

He in my opinion had the talent to become a GREAT lamping dog, but because he didnt retrieve a few people were sayin he could never be a good lamping dog so he sold it Quote Link to post
Guest Lurchers2006
If I knew he was selling it and I had the space Id buy him, If you could get the retrieving sorted you would have a good lamping dog, thanks for the reply paddy everyone has different needs Quote Link to post

Pity, i would of had him and try and get him to retreive. The worse thing about this is, that it has gone to a messer and gets passed from pilar to pilar. I hope he found it a good permenant working home. ? Frank. Edited June 4, 2007 by Frank Quote Link to post

gaz 284
A GOOD DOG WASTED IN MY OPINION!!!!! Quote Link to post
Gareth12 225
Id take that dog in a heartbeat! A little bit of work and youd have a cracking dog! Retriving is so easy to teach always baffles me when people say their dog refuses to do it! Lazy reason for getting rid of the dog! Quote Link to post
doxhope 2
Didnt retrieve, so what..If they do then its a god send, if not, its not the end of the world. The first dog I lamped didnt bring back, and I swore every dog I owned from then would, and they did, but that bitch was what I still class as the best all round lurcher Ive had. Your mate is the only looser here, I know lads that would give there right hand to have a dog that took them sort of numbers..Classing a lurcher bad because it dosnt bring back.. So if a lurcher retrieves but struggles to catch a fair share of the rabbits it chases on the lamp its a goodun ehhhh....'Father forgive them, for they know not what they do' Quote Link to post

Look mate im sorry if thats how I came across but its not the case, I will get pictures of the dog not killing foxes and then show my dog!!! My dog is doing everything I ask of it except his retrieving isnt great, more than once I have asked for help on here regarding retrieving, if I wanted help I would ask Oh and also just to add I barely know this lad just wondering would people keep him or not? No need for people to go assuming things when they dont know me? Edited June 4, 2007 by Lurchers2006 Quote Link to post
