Elliott 436
Went onto the small permission this afternoon at around 2pm to have a plink with the HW100KT and check grouping and holdover at 50m. I took a range of pellets with me including AA Field, JSB Exact Express, Webely Accupel, Rangemaster Li, H&N FTT and RWS Superdome. Unsuprisingly the Li's came out top, grouping around an inch due a pretty strong wind. I'm confident it would have been half of that in calm conditions but I had established it was 4 mildots hold over on x7 mag, dropping 22.5cm with a 23m zero which was what I set out to check. I aimed and hit the barbed wire to check the holdover was accurate, here's the pellet that I managed to get out from inbetween the wire! Thought its deformation was interesting.. Fast forward 7 hours and I'm on the golf course permission, landing at 8.55pm. By 9pm the first rabbit was in the bag, a 41m prone shot off the bipod. The shot passed straight through and I heard it come to a stop against the steel portacabin behind the rabbit. The shot had struck slightly low but was fatal nonetheless. By 9.10pm I was stalking my second rabbit at 70m when the resident fox ran accross my path 40m ahead of me. Oblivious to my presence its eyes were clearly transfixed on the numerous rabbits that were on the course. Raised on a tee the rabbit I was stalking didn't spot charlie but was stood to attention, it knew something wasn't right. I had managed to get within 35m and with the light fading decided to opt for the shot. The shot again struck low, hitting the rabbit in the kneck disabling it instantly. I quickly followed up with a second before hastily making my way over. With the light fading fast I paunched both rabbits to find them both pregnant, the last quite heavily which I suspected on collection. I always feel awful when this happens, if I could tell I wouldn't pull the trigger. Perhaps I'm becoming softer as I'm getting older. Got back to the car at 10pm and unloaded my gear only to find I'd left my bloody (literally) knife on the other side of the course. A 30min wander in pitch black with no light was quite a challenge but I eventually stumbled accross it and made my way home. I really need to invest in a lamp Si if you read this can I be cheeky and ask if you'd mind doing another chairgun calculation for me? Need to really tighten up on my aim points with the new digi nite eye scope, thought I had it sussed this afternoon but it wasn't just as clean as I'd have liked. Thanks Edited August 11, 2012 by Elliott 3 Quote Link to post

Its alright shooting the edge of pennies and wire fencing but if you fluff it up the field you're as good, or bad, as any novice. I need more practice Edited August 11, 2012 by Elliott 1 Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
if you need more practice, then i need a frikkin miracle!! anyway. get that 77 back out 1 Quote Link to post
Elliott 436
anyway. get that 77 back out still experimented with pellets yet so that I can give it a fair go. Nothing seems to pan out properly when I nip out to do some accuracy testing. I'm blaming the scope at the minute, I'm on the lookout for a panorama ev Edited August 11, 2012 by Elliott 1 Quote Link to post

Mawders 595
you wont be dissapointed.. I second that, best scope I've ever owned and with the 40mm objective it valances out my little 95K a treat! Not cheap scopes but worth every penny in my mind. ATB Mawders 1 Quote Link to post
porkycrook 466
If you don't mind me joining in, i will second, third and fourthly agree that since hearing Si praising its optics. I went out and purchased one, replacing another Hawke scope, this one was a Hawke Eclipse which worked fine. But when the Panorma was bolted onto my AAs410 and both Si and Davyt63 (who are two of the most decent, honest and skilled people it's been my pleasure to meet) set-up my "set-up" it has become a killing machine. I now have such beautiful clear optics and the correct details regarding mil-dots that, if i can not see its head and have to go for heart shot that the bird might fly from its perch but it will no go to far falling dead from the sky. I can not praise this scopes optics highly enough. Sorry for joining in. ATVB Roger 1 Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Looks like we have a serious talent in our midst with Elliott here. Thank you very much for such great shooting shared with us Elliott. Fast fading light makes rangefinding tricky as you try to cover as much ground as possible in the time you have left. So shooting at these long ranges successfully in such poor light is no small thing. Well done mate. Roger (porkycrook) You don't have to apologise for joining in m'lad? It's what this forum is for, isn't it?! Keep it coming Elliott.! Best regards to you both Gentlemen. Simon Edited August 12, 2012 by pianoman 1 Quote Link to post

villaman 9,983
Hi Elliott A very good read there. I have the same set up but i found the best pellets for mine are falcon accuracy plus 13.3gr running at 620-625 fps and RWS superfields 15.9gr running at 575-579 fps . The falcons are OK up to 45-50 yards but the superfields have a tighter group Quote Link to post

Whilste it was a High Five for me, it was also something that made me both feel bad and second guess myself! If I'd not have taken the shot, would there have been more on my perms in the future? We will never know...... But she sure tasted amazing Tony Quote Link to post
hotshot2me 31
Hi Elliot its never nice to shoot Rabbit's in young, but your on a Golf Course permission and I'm sure you would not be their long if the staff found out you weren't taking Rabbits just because they were preggers. I have a Golf Course Permission also and you have to do what your their for, or they will soon find someone else to do it: Dave Quote Link to post
