Certainly up here in Scotland if hunts loose the right to use terriers then the rest of the terrier boys will loose out too.. Quote Link to post

Theres a rumour going around that Farquar is trying to get rid of the terrier boys. Certainly up here in Scotland if hunts loose the right to use terriers then the rest of the terrier boys will loose out too.. The Lack of Mounted Hunts,in Scotland .Was one of the mitigating factors for keeping Hunting with Hounds alive.. The History of the Hillpacks/Gun pack ,fox destruction clubs,Terrier control by Shepherds Etc..kept hunting in Scotland Unique in the U.K. There was a Distinct lack off the Class Argument to be implied North of the Border..aiding the law to be Implemented differently to the rest of the Britsh Isles . The mounted Hunts were allowed to continue with a few Tweaks ,emulating what had Happened for 100 odd years with hillpacks / Todhunters.. with the introduction of Guns ..aiding Terrierwork. Thus allowing them to be seen as Controlling Pests rather than just Chasing them... I.M.O. the Use of the Terrier for Control Allowed the "Hunt " to continue ,rather than the "Hunt" allowing terrier work to continue ..Where else can a Terrier be used to safeguard Livestock, and not Just Gamebirds ? Tam O'Void 297
Lol, terrier work is the reason hunting was allowed continue, class, good one on it's own .NO ! The use of Traditional "PEST CONTROL" Used in conjunction with HOUNDS & GUN... Yes ! I.M.O. I believe if it was just a straight foward. - Let Mounted Hunts Continue the "Status Quo" it would have Failed, and taken TERRIERWORK with it ..Like it or not the "CLASS" question would have impacted more than it was allowed.. Don't take this as a slight on the Mounted Hunts, they have their place..,but without the mounted following, you will Flush a FOX all the same !. Quote Link to post

A pack of hounds is a pack of hounds wether its hunted on foot or by horse in my eyes, after all they differ mainly due to terrain that's to be hunted.. Quote Link to post
WILF 47,353
I agree with that, huntsmen, whips and followers who want to hunt their hounds will, hunt them, be that on foot or from the saddle..... Quote Link to post

Precisely, Hounds will Hunt regardless of a FOLLOWING ... but in the EYES of the Public..a Mounted Following ,equates with Rich Folk chasing a Fox for Enjoyment.. = negative P.R.. AS said before .In SCOTLAND we were able to minimise the Perception of the General Publics' view of Fox Control ,due to the lack of Mounted Hunts .. The Control, North of the Border was Traditionally seen as that ...PEST CONTROL and not A days Fun..PUBLIC PERCEPTION is always going to Impact on Decisions made around Hunting.. Quote Link to post
