here I have pasted my reply at which point did I say MY two dogs

Some of my warrens are 500 holers and having two dogs held back to slip is far better than even two good ferreting dogs over the warren as they just cannot postion themselfs in the right place .

What a load of utter nonsense ... I will tell you what I will meet you at one of your 500 warrens and you can stand with your speed machine slip dogs and I will bring my ageing collie cross mongrel an

If you have a dog on a slip/lead then the dog is not ferreting. If you hold your dog back, how will it learn the ropes and become that good ferreting dog. If it always on the lead when the ferret is d

let the dog suss stuff out for itself and let it use its own instincts, don,t hinder the dog

Its turning into Lurcher section on here lads...LOL...very entertaining.

I Think a ferreting Comp would sort the charlatons out around here..

from that quote i can tell you havent done as much as your saying.....................

its common sense ..............i havent done half as what alot of people on here have done...............the bigger warrens i have done on the open hill sides the rabbits always hole hop given the chance....................you may get one here and there try and make a run for it.....................but the majority will hole hop.......................how the feck is dogs on slips going to catch these............

for a start the dog will be marking the holes where the rumbling is.....................being in that position they stand a better chance than a dog on a slip....................

they will work with the ferrets far better and have a better success rate working freely on top of warrens..................it dont take a genius to work it out............. :victory:

I talking about holding the dogs on slip in the same country not 100 miles away the warren .

I am talking about ferretting with dogs in conjuction with purse nets and long nets ,I am not talking about soley working dogs over large warrens .

Ever area and situ warren is diffrent as whippet99 states alot if left unnetted but I work purse nets and longnets so the majority of fleeing coneys know the game is afoot sense and see the purse net and make the bid for freedom to the next hillside warren .

Which is when having a good ferretting dog stood watching listerning the action in the centre of the warren as the coney runs across the field with 50 yards lead on your dog makes the prized dog prety useless.

And what you find is after working large warrens the coneys have a pattern and exits accross the field that they bolt to and postioning of a good slip dog will pay divindends .

Each to own as always .

A good ferreting dog will already be in the best position it can that's what makes it good or if you think you know better than the dog you should be able to position it there with the stay command and continue to retrieve rabbits from nets yourself whilst the dog is in this position using your own hands instead of being stood on the edge of a bury with a dog on a lead.

Even better if you're lucky enough to see this pattern that you talk of put a long net there or set your purse nets better.
