RossM 8,149
Had my wee terrier for 2yrs now, found it wandering about roads and took it to police station, wasn't chipped so I asked them what happens next, they said they would put her to local kennels and if no one claimed her within 30 days she would be rehomed, I thought she had been through enough so I passed my details on and said if anyone reports a missing dog to pass on my details, I phoned back every day for 3weeks and no one had claimed her and she's been here ever since! Anyway I've always wanted her to go to go to ground but never forced the situation, she's had a few rats, a shot mink, and wasn't bad at the ferreting (if kept an eye on with the ferrets) she bushes ok and has dropped in a the end of a few digs and was keen, but she has never entered earths on her own accord although she she was going in a short way when out on a dig, I've acquired a bit permission on 2 small shoots and would like to do abit this year, Do you think there's a chance I can get her going? Vet reckoned she was approx 6-12mths when I took her to scan her for a chip incase plod had missed it. Quote Link to post

Hickory 54
As the man ^^ said, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I've been out with five year old dogs that had never seen a hole and took to it like a duck to water. Good luck. The dog does have the look. Edited August 10, 2012 by Hickory Quote Link to post
RossM 8,149
dont hole end her!! let her do her thing on her own. Pulled mates terrier out, and let her have a look in, she went in once she saw something there, as I said never have/will force the issue. Quote Link to post
whippet 99 2,613
keep taking her on digs .................when she hears the other dogs working....she should start getting excited.................. give her a few rags at the end ........................start wineding her up slowly.........................then show her a few in stop ends...............if shes keen then ..........she should self enter......... i think its a case of having her at a few digs ...........getting her to know the crack........................just building her confidence up .............when the penny does drop ..............would be worth while.............i think a dog shows its true colours when its in stop end...................gives you good indication that shes ready Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
My opinion for what it's worth is that dog is a cracker. Terriers are not my thing but you know I've always got space for her! Keep her to the rats and rabbits and that muzzle unblemished. Mind if you go a dig I've got roxy the wrecking ball here Quote Link to post
