If we form a big line can we flush a few back towards wales ??:laugh:

They are already here.

I've heard they are East of Newport in the Gwent area etc, Im just outside Bridgend and we have a few fallow not far, heard reports of Roe being introduced in the Bridgend area n all but not heard of any munties about so far.

I have read they spread fairly quick tho so probally only a matter of time, reckon it'd be quite a few years unless somebody drops a load off as has obvs happened where they have isolated pockets in some parts of the country!

I've been racking my brains and can't recall ever seeing one in Gwent and have spent a fair bit of time rabbiting on the area east of Newport but friends have said they have seen them.

Now where can i sign up for this trip ? I got a history of fighting though brambles  ................... :D

they are in gwent now but not in great numbers yet

ssssshhhh don't tell them English they'll be coming over here...................... lamping :D

It'll be nice to see more around

What surprised me with them is they're turn.....................From what I've seen they don't run with the same style of other species of a deer .

Roe and fallow will bounce to show how fit and powerful they are but the munty just seem to run as close to the floor as possible. especially if i'm in thick coverts with the hounds.

Anyone else notice this?

there are munties everywhere round here, every bramble patch or overgrown garden seems to have one hiding. a dog which is switched on to them will csause no end of grief for its owner when out for a walk, as they will even lie up just yards from roads and footpaths. we used to find that a munty feeding close to cover would be a real test for a dog,as it would dive straight through the thickest, spikiest undergrowth it could, like RAW said they keep low and make them selves bullet-shaped, whereas a running dog with its long legs and different running action is slowed down in this habitat. push one out of cover and its game on, they are quite quick for the first 50 yards and will try to get back into cover quickly like a rabbit. dogs come across one in the open and its usually not a long chase, although they can turn a bit. i have seen bucks cause some horrendous injuries to a dog, usually with the canines but on occasion they will catch a dog with their spiky little antlers when they are thrashing about. i have even seen a couple of bucks which turned round and took the fight to the dog, they are ballsy and very tough, their skin is like old shoe leather (try skinning one!)

i always looked on them as a nice little bonus when out for a mooch, something else for a dog to turn its hand (PAW?) to. but i do prefer CWD to eat.

There not that challenging for a dog, much slower than hares. Ive heard of a lot of dogs been hurt by them by my old lass took at least 50 and only got a small cut out of all those times.

That's the thing with them,,,some dogs can take loads,,,then all of a sudden one day get cought with a tusk,,,,and your looking round for a shovel,,,some very experienced dogs have come to a bloody end with muntys,,,

Seen it myself an old dog of mine had his neck opened up and I never bothered running him on them again

im suprised you never said had its head cut off survived and went on to kill 1000 black dog
