Recommended Posts

Look at the website Terrier and lurcher shows and racing both days there was longnetting display Hounds are back this year what are you actually looking for? the internet has KILLED getting cheap gear at shows if you have to carry it from one end of the country to the other pay for a pitch get rained off like Scone lose two days out of three pay for staff cover stuff that gets nicked we are going to lose what shows we have got. Last year was the first year for Lowther it will not continue if it has to rely on people that can't understand how things are changeing. Cumbrian business's really missed the Lowther show I'll be there to meet people who actually enter into the spirit of game fairs and country shows and a big Thanks to Countryman Fairs for reviving what used to be and will be again a top show.

. Listen bud know ones is getting at you I. Just tell it as it is the lowther was run on the Back of the driving trials. Then the 6 packs through in the hound show wich grew and grew the terrier sho was second to none , the game fair was secondary. I don't go to shows to buy clothes. Having terrier shows on both days says it all if I have to explain that to you , ON YOU GO

Get yourself done to the EDRD show on the sunday, much better show and you don't have to get a mortgage to pay the entry fee . The only game fair I've been to this year is the catton park gamekeeper fair, realistic entry fee and a good show alround. Won't be going to the midland this year after 12 years of going every year, how the organisers can justify putting the entry fees up like they do year on year in the current climate. As mentioned in an earlier post some are just like car boots!!

see my opinion on last years lowther in last years thread ........................to be fair it was utter utter shite.i dont go to many game fairs or shows but if im paying 15 quid id like to see where a little of my hard earned went..............first class of last years russell terrier show saw a women with two russells with un docked tails on a double harness walk into the ring ..........i decided that from there i was going to have a pint and fook off home which i did............as for cumbrians well there were none of the fell packs there, no terrier show to speak of, just another car boot sale .......................yis fellman in case you missed my point in there it was cats shite!

Lowther was more that a game fair it was a meeting place packs would travel. From far and wide the. Fell packs tent full of old photos and characters. , the best turned out hunts man in full fell kit , the. Hound show with all the hound wagons parked up after the show sing song would go on well into the night , the terrier show was worth winning. , don't try to throw up a few cheap and Nasty clothes stalls and a few rossets. And CALL IT LOWTHER !!!!!!

The good old days of Lowther mentioned are long gone, but they are long gone at most events, drink driving, cost of living, hunting ban, terrier tail docking blame what we want but things have changed, there was no Hunts at Lowther last year because there was no hound show, this is rectified this year with the Central Fell Packs running a show.

Lowther organising committee said Lowther was finished 2 years ago, along come Country Fairs and are trying to rebuild it, I went last year and wasnt impressed, but they need time and support to get it back to near what it was,

The Terrier show wasnt just poor last year, it had been in decline for nearly 10 years, even with cheap tickets, it will take time and effort to rebuild, maybe some discount for entries would help, it is expensive if you just want to show terriers and lurchers, the Lurcher show was always fairly well attended even if expensive, but entries were free to show and good prizes given, but if we want a decent show we have to help by supporting it and help get it back on the list of good days out.

Thing is, that now CF have got hold of it, it will be run as a purely commercial venture to rape as much money as possible out of people.

There's no prestige to winning a show that is run again the next day!

As Mally said, there's a proper show on that weekend and that's where I'll be, a show that takes class winners from loads of (mostly) independent shows up and down the country over the summer and puts them all against each other.

THAT is a show worth winning in my opinion (hard to believe but I do have them)

I was at a CF show last weekend, I went because it was MWTLC running the dog show and I try and support when I can.

It cost me £20 !! to get in to a car boot sale, if that is a gamefair these days then I'm a Chinaman, it was absolute wank, walked around it in 5 minutes.

Give your money and support to those who deserve and appreciate it.

EDRD

Chilli ............ there'll be a "last chicken in the shop" competition behind my vehicle at 2 pm on sunday if you'd care to join us, all entrants must be correctly depilated.
