terrier help? what do you guys think?

alirght lads

 

just alittle info from you guys would be good if at all poss.

 

i have a mate that is looking at getting himself a terrier but he seems to want a border. i have heard some horror storys about these and im wondering what your thoughts are?... thats the first question ha.

 

now on to the second... if he was to get a differnt type what wouyld you suggest?? but first heres what will be needed/wanted from the dog:

 

. Firstly it will be a companion.

 

. he wants to do some ratting with it (living on a farm/livery)

 

. he would like to do some bushing also with the lurchers

 

. hes not too keen on a long,wirey coat aswell.

 

I have no idea about terriers so thought you guys may be able to help?

i was thinking a smooth russle. infact i did mention that to him ha.

i was thinking about a plummer but have never actually seen one work, or even just seen one infact!!

 

i also wouldnt have any idea were to start looking for a working border either ;)

I'm no fan of Borders but admit to limited experience with them. But from what I've seen they're slow to mature, working lines are hard to find, the one I carried back to the States as a favor to a friend literally destroyed everything that he could get a tooth on and they run large for earthwork in the states. They tend to be as hard as the hubs of hell and if you get the bad luck of having one that's a fighter look out for the rest of the dogs in your kennel. Lastly, they're ugly as homemade sin to my eyes.

 

That said I've got a couple of friends who like them and have a couple of decent workers. Good luck with whatever he decides on.

best description of a border ive heard for ages. lol.

ive a little experience of plummers and for small fry they are hard to beat. any breed that is work bred should exel at the smaller stuff.
