fox assasin 16
Hi guys There is a big overgrown bramble batch on one of the permissions i have and even in the winter its a pain to ferret So there is about 60 odd rabbits in this patch and they have burrows under neat the cover MY plan is to go in with a big long thin bit of sharp steel that has a wooden handle to hack down the cover for the winter How long do i leave the rabbits alone before i go to get them with the ferrets after hacking down the cover Cheers Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
When i have to clear stuff like that, i will do it first thing in the morning, net it up and move on then come back towards the end of the day and go through it, not sure what others would suggest, but that has always worked for me. Tug 168
We try and brash out the weekend or at very least the day before, but some of our permissions have to be done in a day because of the distance to them so we clear them first light and then do some easy ones until after lunch. Mick C. 229
Usually chop back and ferret them straight away A few bolt odd one or two are dug Most of the ones i done in brambles dont burrow to deep. Sometimes they move out overnight if there habitat is seriously disturbed 1 Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
Yeah, i wouldnt leave it overnight, some rabbits will move out, but if do it first thing in the morning, and net them then move on, its not rare to come back to a rabbit in a net that bolted to move on. Quote Link to post
The one 8,523
How big is it ?. if you cant ring it with long nets can you cut it into sizable strips for ferreting ?.I would cut it one day and ferret it the next day allowing time for the rabbits to settle down any longer and somebody else might ferret it .but if a few do move out wont they be in easier burrows to ferret then ?. Mick C. 229
I would take them while they were there. A lot will lie out in cover if they move out. Bird in the hand and all that Usually not to bad once you make a start. Good luck Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
We cut and clear same day , some of the twats ive been out with make more noise on open burys , really winds me up, then there's the monkey who doesn't put there phone on silent : / and his mrs constantly checks up on him. Just ruins my day all that amatuerish behaviour. Back on topic get stuck in, Quote Link to post

Back on topic get stuck in, Glad im not the only one who gets wound up by others, and there is always an impatient one asking if the ferret is lost or stuck and why is nothing happening in the first two min, far easier to go on my own. 03milesR 6
i clear and gear the same day, let the rabbits settle for 10-15mins then stick the ferret down, my theory is if they've got a ferret up their arse there gunna move regardless atb Rikki Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
I'd run the longnets around it, less disturbance for a start and will still be able to ferret it later on in the season Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
