i know a couple of lads that have sparred with Katie ,and they would tell you she is as good if not better than most blokes in her weight class, and that display of boxing her and Natasha Jonas showed today was brilliant ,it should of been for the gold, they where the 2 best boxer in it,but unlucky how the draw went

I ,m all for equality and good luck to the girls who take part , but it just feels so wrong and uncomfortable watching two young girls punch each other , it,s not a sport I would watch again .

My 11 year old daughter has been boxing near a year now loves it 9 fights all wins now gave up her hurling and football to get serious at boxing she is training 2sessions a day now 3 times a week and loving it is really taking it serious has been in some fights with heavy shots I don't mind watching it at all I'm very proud of her no different to me if it was my son or my girl she loves it she is damn good at it why not support her

If your daughter sticks at it to adulthood.....please God she never takes a serious hiding, but if she does you may well change your opinion............im not talking about getting sparked out im talking about a battle that takes something out of a person.......any person.

After all said and done if womens boxing cant be taken to those levels then its a compromise on what the sport essentially is....

For keeping fit yes great.....................for dig down deep traumatic battles....no way.

When i worked with violent patients, the women had the edge over men for violence and aggression. Much worse.

My sister says the same moll!! When she was in new Zealand the moari men used to be scared of the woman in the nutty ward lol

Your missing out then Gnash as they perform admiraly.

Ps, i hate nothing more than women fighting on the street but im all for womens boxing.

Im not missing out if i dont like it.

I could watch my son go through a long hard possibly dangerous battle and be proud of him.......i couldnt watch my daughter go through a long hard dangerous battle without feeling ashamed that im not protecting her.....................different strokes for different folks i guess.

Dont really know what way to put this Gnash so bare with me lol.

You would be proud of your son boxing, but not your daughter.. Im not a parent so i wouldnt know what the different feelings are between sons and daughters. But in my opinion, if my brother had of been able to box and get support from my mum and dad, and if i wanted to box and they stood against it - well least to say i would be very hurt and feel as though i wasn't good enough or something? I understand where you and some others are coming from - because its not nice to see a woman's face all bruised and cut or whatever - but then again it's no different than a man... What im trying to say is if a woman gets a blackeye or a broken nose, it will hurt just as much as a man getting one, no difference really, beside the fact that a woman is a woman and somehow get slated as the "weaker" sex - some people seem to think they will hurt more. But they wont, mentally or physically be weaker than a male boxer..

Only my opinion Gnash but like i said im not a parent so wouldn't know the feelings toward son/daughter.

its the instinct to care for and protect the lady. that is instilled (or should be) in most men. you look after your sister then your wife come under your wing .your mother . thn you get children. the female children get special care. and your lads get told. LOOK AFTER YOUR SISTER. and there its gone full circle.

females are not physically built to take punches . it may be true that some women are aggressive and violent. (just the sort of folk you dont like to see in boxing).

no one has the right to say women cant box. but i think its inadvisable for women to take up boxing. it dont sit right with me.

And that's the crux of the issue right there Cleanspade. To see two women/girls compete with blood & guts in combat just goes against a very basic feeling in males. That's not to say it's wrong or they don't deserve to have the right. There's a fine line somewhere.

I think the skill , control & dicipine boxing must take to do is hard.. harder for a women becuase were generally scrappy creatures when pushed .. so hats off to the girls who box i couldnt have done it as a younger woman

The reason being Mochara..............guts/gameness call it what you will............is not pretty, its sometimes very scarey, and it can come with lasting damage and severe consequences on occasion...................while thats a trait i admire in a man or dog...................its not something i ever wish to see a woman put through.

Im not talking about swapping a few punches...............im talking about the guts and will to win it takes to push through and beyond your physical and mental capabilities when all seems lost.................................

While i think women are fine creatures i prefer to keep things real and i know like Tuesday follows Monday there are some things your average woman is just not cut out for without compromising the very sport/job they are doing.

As regards the rest i think Cleanspade has put it word for word perfect

Ok Gnash, im with you now. But as regards to what cleanspade has stated that it a male's instinct to protect (even though im all for it), i still am a bit wary of, but then that could be just because ive never experienced it..
