And for years there have been plans for the colonisation of Mars, which while technologically different than the colonisation of Australia or America is little different in concept. The voyages to the

I bet one of your ancestors said the very same thing when America or Australia was discovered.   Exploration is one of the pinnacles of human achievement. Look at all we had to discover to get to th

when we still have people starving to death on this planet i think it is disgusting that all that money is spent on that IMO.

You might be right mate, maybe they should stop spending money on scientific advancement and chuck it all at Africa eh..?

no, carry on with useful scientific advancements, mars etc is only being explored to satisfy our curiousity imo.

That curiosity is what sets us apart from the rest of the animals here on earth mate, its what drives us on. If we don't act upon it we may as well all start living like some of the rural Pakistanis and Afghans who would like nothing better than to see us all live our lives like we're 1400 years in the past..

i completly agree with the curiousity part ad everything and i as much as the next man are interested as too what is in space, are we alone etc. if these adventures to space could justify finding something out, an end to world hunger, a cancer cure etc then i would say double the amount of money we are spending on the trips to space. now i think about it actually, it is these solutions to medical care and hunger that means the planet is so f****d, as there are simply too many humans alive on the planet to cope. i do take your point and think that we should look in space i just cant get over the face that people dont have clean water or food in some areas of the planet... :hmm::thumbs:

"The research that is conducted by national space exploration agencies, such as NASA and Roscosmos, is one of the reasons supporters cite to justify government expenses. Economic analyses of the NASA programs often showed ongoing economic benefits (such as NASA spin-offs), generating many times the revenue of the cost of the program.[28]"

Always got to push the boundaries IMO. Where would we be without the likes of Brunel, Whittle, etc if throughout the ages people were against spending a few shekels along the way? :D Money is only money at the end of the day. The likes of us mere mortals wouldn't see a penny of it even if we ended all space exploration anyway so I don't see where the issue lies..

The thing is, we won't know what's up there if we don't look, who can say there isn't a cure for cancer a solution to world hunger up there.

Thank God our ancestors had more foresight, didn't see Columbus, Scott, Livingston and the many other world explorers hanging back.

thats if it's not a hoax like the moon landings :whistling: as Nasa has been known to not be 100% truthful lol but that sense of longing for knowledge as malt said sets us apart from all other species from making stone tools to going to the poles to the moon and wherever else we go if we don't wipe ourselves out first so im all for it and the money is not being sent to mars as well people and companies will get it the same as if it was spent on building etc and we never know what we might find look at the drug treatments found from discovering plants in the rainforrest things like that so we should aim as far as we can as each time our population on earth continues to explode and large countries like the bric nations start catching up with the rest the world, resources will be fought over like never before so if we don't move forward we will go back t the stone age
