Marvin 193
In the last couple of days two kits have been eaten by im presuming the mother or the other adult jill in the hutch, all that has been left either time is a few patches of fur, couple of questions, shall i move them to their own hutch now as they are eating meat and secondly could it have been the other kits that have done this Quote Link to post

Hywel 53
Put the other adult jill in another cage, how old are the kits? Quote Link to post
The one 8,552
Separate them but is there something upsetting the jill ?. Quote Link to post
Marvin 193
The kitts are 6 or 7 weeks old now and are weened so hopefully should be ok, im going to seperate them today and keep a close eye on whats going on. The One, thanks for your question, i was thinking the same because she is hissing a lot, not at me just in general, i can handle her and the kitts without so much as a nip, but when she is back in the cage she starts hissing again Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
Probably hissing at the other jill in her cage with her kits, take the other jill out and wean off the kits into a seperate cage, split them all up then that gives you the best chance. atb. Quote Link to post
tomano1 80
should not have an adult ferret in with mother and kits mate me thinks u should google feeding ferrets and find out a bit more about there eating habbits cos ferrets should have food at all times ? Quote Link to post
Marvin 193
I have separted them now, the kits are in there own part, so see how it goes, i had read on here a number of times that another jill in with the mother and kitts helps with their care and upkeep, this has been the case up until now. Tomano why would i need to google feeding them? the jills and kitts are fed on minced beef, minced rabbit, liver and chicken wings, they have food and water at all times, so really cannot see where you have based your comments Quote Link to post

Meerkats have help like that, ferrets and polecats are solitary animals, we force them to be social. Quote Link to post
