2.8 guy 403
So we have sorted why some dogs fail, But to the question of success rates, On a whole are the majority of coursing bred pups worth the high premium you pay for them and if there that good these days as running dogs/ sighthounds do you think the hybrid saluki will become more popular than the greyhound as a running dog base in lurchers Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
i say start them young like all good athletes but then again i have no experience skycat really knows her stuff she must produce some really good dogs i would never argue with anybody who knows there stuff like her she must of done loads and loads of dog work or she must read alot of books atb oneshot LOL at the last bit I wish there had been a lot of books out there when I was learning: would have saved me making a lot of mistakes along the way Think of a mother cheetah bringing back live prey for her young to practice on. Young dogs also need easy prey to learn on, which is why myxi rabbits are such a confidence giver. Rabbits bolted by ferrets as well, running away from home, disorientated. It's not very politically correct to talk about running young dogs on young leverets, and to be honest, I've never done it. Get the pup's confidence well up on rabbits, then when it is old enough, let it run full three quarter grown, early season hares, ones which haven't been 'educated' by other dogs. If the breeding is right the dog will learn what to do very quickly. 1 Quote Link to post
