picked scarlet up from aviary today popped her on the scales and she is down to 2lb 1oz

did 5 separate manning sessions today and the sessions got better as they day went on kept with the bating 6 times and putting hood back on but she seems much more relaxed there was also a lot of noises today in my garden birds tweeting, fence creaking, ferrets crashing around, she was taking it all in looking around.

she has still not eaten but her head is starting to look down more! (have a feeling she will eat tomorrow)

she is taking to the hood a lot better!

and in the last manning session my mentor come round with his dog a vizsla who will be 1 of his working partners and scarlet didn't bate once which was very surprising and very reassuring

will be introducing the ferrets to the hawk in the next couple of days!

Has for the hooding i honestly think it does have some good benefits for us i hood all the birds ive had because you just never know when you will need to keep you bird calm.   For one example i was

use a rabbit leg with the meat of it for manning as the bird will work at it for ages and hardly get any reward for it this way they look at the glove as a good place to be and not a pirch.think of it

Reds seem better than Harris another plus for a red

look mate if your gonna just post on my thread crap like that don't bother cheers I'm quite happy to do a diary on here but your comment has no relevance to it so don't bother please

cheers stu

It will all come together soon stu. the major turning point is when she feeds off your fist and then you're away . a lad took a young female Harris off me a couple of weeks back which went a good 4 - 5 days before feeding, when she finally fed things have moved forward quickly and the manning proper started, last I heard she was coming a short distance on the crance but have no idea how far he has got since.....

won't be long before you are out huntiung with her stu and all your hard work will be justified :victory:....

did lots of manning throughout the day today and she is getting better every day, more calm and not so much hanging like a fruit bat!!

weighed her in the morning and she was 2lb on the nose!!

again she was taken all the new soundings and various noises in,

brought her in doors at lunch time as it was a spitting a bit outside and she was as calm as a cucumber and started to put her head down after wiggling my finger like a mad man(think my fingers may fall off) lol

about 7 took her to my mentors place for an hour to do some more work with her hand viz the dog and again very calm and not bothered at all by the dog!

then bought her home for one last session which was about 3 quarters of an hour ish!! then just as i was thinking that will do for the day she put her head down and ate couldn't believe it !!!! gave her a few more pieces and put her away then ran round the garden like a loon!!!!

amazing day for me cuffed aint the word, now for the next stage ,, can't wait

Nice set up Bullseye.. ..this is in no way a dig just a question..what have you got the bow sat on in your enclosure..? ..if it is carpet i would remove it as the hawk may well get her feet caught up in it..if it is lino i would also remove it as your bird will end up full of shite when she is bating about..

Hi mate i fail to see what grovesy has actualy done wrong but voice opinion he finds reds take to ferrets better than the harris this is his opinion and he s entitled to it . He offered you some great advise on using a tiring to keep the bird occupied and more interested in the food and glove for longer there making your manning process longer and positive thus benifiting you in manning your bird .why not just ask how he finds them easier you never know you might learn something i know its your thread your diary etc but i think you need to lighten up pal do not post on my thread etc etc if someone dares to voice an opinion . me myself find the harris better i find reds unpredictable and very tempermental but thats my opinion i just think you need to lighten up pal and good lick with your bird your doing a good job
